I have watched - and listened to - them dive for fish in Canada. I'd never seen one scoop up a fish on a pass as that first catch. They usually dive - like a bowling ball hitting the water from several hundred feet up - and bring up a fish in both talons. Whereas an eagle carries the fish sideways, osprey usually have it streamlined head forward underneath them - like a torpedo.
I also watched red-winged blackbirds chase osprey from a nesting area on the Au Sable River, near Camp 10 Bridge. That surprised me. Gutsy little devils.
