North Burnett Valley - a motorcycle trip

Great RR Mick! "Geezers" is a phrase used a lot here regarding boating activities. Looks like you fellows follow the O.F.R.A.T path in the motorcycle realm. Old Farts Riding Any Time. I am a card carrying member of that crew. Seen any fuel stations like this one? Keep paddling and ride...

    James River Bateau Festival

Bear, The railroad took over the canals that the earlier tow boats traveled on, so it was seldom far from the edge of the river. About 4 or 5 long trains would come through each night hauling coal and other freight to and from Richmond. Needless to say, they could wake the dead at times...

    James River Bateau Festival

Sorry, but picture heavy. On with the trip! The trip was broken into eight days of travel and seven nights camped at designated spots along the river. Saturday, the boats gathered at Percival's Island in Lynchburg for an 11:00 start. The punt was loaded, gear secured and ready to go...

    James River Bateau Festival

"After a slow night up on General Ho's road the two A-1's came down the river looking for any sampans out for a dawn cruise. Rollie spotted a group on the West side and dropped lower for a look see. The muzzle flashes and 'pink-pink' of small arms rounds hitting the bird confirmed this flotilla...

THE JOURNEY BEGINS......NIMBLE GIANTS The trip to Lynchburg, VA from Tryon was uneventful. Roads were clear and Crackerbarrel was there when needed. I arrived at the landing on the James River across the river from town to find the place busy with crews putting their boats in the water. Quite a...

    James River Bateau Festival

Here is a quote from a petition to the Virginia State Legislature, Nov. 6, 1790: "The boats which navigate the river above the falls are often manned with people without property and as we have experienced without principle-Their depredations on the property of persons living near the river...

    New England

Ahhhhh. You stir the memories of my recent five year sojourn in Maine. Northern New England is indeed a beautiful part of the country. There is some fine paddling up yonder..... You should plan to fly up when they have the float plane fly-in up at Moosehead Lake in Maine. Quite a sight...

Well, things have been fairly low key since the initial sea trials of the punt. We have been out terrorizing the panfish and small mouth bass populations on the Green river and Lake Adger. Great fun! I had forgotten how much fun a little angling could be. So, the big trek down the James is...
