    Do I need a pirogue?

Yes, first build. You may not recall but we did communicate a few months ago. Are you saying that the Swampgirl is an easier build than the Sasquatch or the Trapper? I was keen on the Swampgirl to start with but got put off for some reason........not sure why! Jeff

    Do I need a pirogue?

Hey Mick Did you ever build the shorter Sasquatch that you referred to on the JEM forum? Was that the 12-33? I ask because Matt suggested it might be a good option for me??? Jeff

    Do I need a pirogue?

FB I do visit here from time to time but haven't posted for a while as this topic sort of went off topic! No, I haven't considered a skiff or dory and don't know much about them, but would guess they are much heavier boats and that would exclude them as I wanted to keep the weight down to about...

    Do I need a pirogue?

Don't know Bob but don't really want to find out the hard way. Legals aside though, it just seems too long to me to have 3.5 to 4' on the rack and 5.5' overhanging each end. Jeff

    Do I need a pirogue?

From what I can gather, the requirements in Queensland (Australia) are that the rear overhang, measured from the centre of the rear Axle, is to be no more than 60% of the vehicle's wheel base. For my vehicle, Suzuki Vitara, the wheel base is 2480mm (97.6") and therefore the allowable overhang is...

    Do I need a pirogue?

bcwetcoast 17' is a long boat! My concern is that for a 15' boat the overhang front and back (of the rack) will be say 5' 6" each (based on a 4' rack). Not 100% sure, but I think that's too long to be legal (the back one). Will have to check. cheers Jeff

    Do I need a pirogue?

Mick The finish looks great. Well that helps with my selection of ply and keeps the weight and the cost down. :D The mini keel looks good but I'm still toying with the idea of building it with a V bottom. I think Matt has a plan for one and I will need to check with him. I'm still wrestling a...

    Do I need a pirogue?

Mick How was the finish on the bracing ply? My experience of the stuff (building not boat-building) is that the surface finish is a bit rough! Did you get a good finish on the boat? I was reading about the Bote-Cote epoxy just yesterday. Sounds like the goods and I think it's a bit less...

    Do I need a pirogue?

G'day Mick Yes, I will definitely be building a pirogue first. Put a few questions to Matt at JEM on his forum and got some input from him another member which was very informative and helpful. At the moment the boat of choice is the touring pirogue either with a flat bottom plus one or more...

    Do I need a pirogue?

Don't plan to be out in waves but I guess you can get caught out. I will think hard about the TV. Might even drop Matt a line to get his opinion. Really nice looking boat! Beautiful lines. thanks again. Jeff

    Do I need a pirogue?

Oldsparkey Thanks for the prompt reply. I am sort of leaning towards one of the piro's just because I think the build will be considerably easier and from what I can see from Johno's post and pics while building the swamp girl the hull looks fairly complex. Love the shape of the hull mind you so...

    Do I need a pirogue?

G'day I'm new here and up til a week or so ago I had never heard of a pirogue. I came across the name while browsing some forums looking for info on a stable sit-on kayak or similar that I could use for fishing and more particularly fly fishing. I was particularly keen to find something that I...
