I liked the epoxy from Raka , http://www.raka.com/epoxy.html. The owner built some of Uncle Johns boats so when I talked with him he knew what was best and could make good recommendations. I would get the medium hardener since I'm in Florida and our heat could increase epoxy curing time.

    Tenkara Rods

Joey... I am thinking the same thing , a 12 foot rod with 12 feet of there line and a 2,1/2 or 3 foot tippet. The Brown bream killer or the Black ones are what produces around here. The bumblebee with ( Black with yellow stripes ) yellow and black striped tail feathers and the rubber legs works...

    Tenkara Rods

I have fished all my life. Either with a casting reel and rod , a fly rod , a spinning rod and even a cane pole or a branch cut and rigged for fishing. I have never fished with a Tenkara outfit and was wondering if anyone on here has tried one of them. From what I can gather it's a cross between...

Nice thing about building your own boat , you can do what you want. Several of my boats ( Numerous Uncle Johns Pirogues , A Uncle Johns Skiff ( 1/4 inch wood ) , a Peterborough Canoe ) except for two Pirogues ( 1/4 inch wood , the other Red Wood strips ) were made from 1/8 Th inch door skin. I...

Taut-Line Hitch , adjusting the lines when camping

I still use the Taut Line Hitch on the ground lines from the tarp. Been tying lines all my life and now I'm getting lazy. The ridge line and rest for the rain fly and tarp I like the Loopalien from Hammock Gear. ( The titanium RCA one ) https://hammockgear.com/loopalien/

Sounds like you have it dialed in as far as the boat. The two rivers you also made a great choice on them. Any section of either river has a lot to offer , look out for the Big Shoals on the Suwanee safeties passage is to portage around it.

    Poor Man's Fiberglass

Well darn Joey , don't hold back and be bashful about using the boats , tell it like it is. As you said if your boat doesn not suffer from " Loading and unloading dings, boat ramp scrapes, anchor rope scuffs, hidden stump gouges, etc. are part of boating. If you wince more than a little at...

    SOLO An Interesting Twig Stove

I was in the hammock on the St Mary's River when a sever storm came threw. The wind was blowing along the tops of the trees ( we call it a roller ) which makes the tops of the trees sway. In the hammock tied to two of the trees which were moving apart ( different directions ) from each other ...

    SOLO An Interesting Twig Stove

Here in good old central Florida , this morning , everything was white. Roof tops , the yards , vehicles and basically anything that was out in the open and sitting still. If you were camping and under a tree that area isn't covered in Frost. Around here the trees keep the frost from the...

    SOLO An Interesting Twig Stove

Around here sometimes a trench fire is used in place of the conventional ground fire for cooking. Florida's sugar sand is great for a fire like this , especially on the rivers sand bars. A small trench with a small grid/grill over it works darn well. When you are done just put the dirt you dug...

    SOLO An Interesting Twig Stove

When the Solo Stove is operating as intended there is a 2nd series of flames or jets from the holes around the top. They are the unburden gasses that are normally wasted and escape. Interesting fact about the Solo Stove and the Bush Buddy along with the other gasifier ones. They are top light...

    SOLO An Interesting Twig Stove

I've had a Solo Stove Lite for several years , probably longer. It's a nice multi fuel , backpacking , wood burning stove. It also can be used as a alcohol stove by either using the ash pan in the stove ( I'm sure that is not recommended by the manufacture but it works great ) or with a drop...

Today is maybe global fat-bike day

Some archeologists were digging around and found a artifact by Chief No Bull. It appeared to be from the same time period when Lewis and Clark were exploring the countryside. It's a record of someone called Jack that Chief No Bull buried. It appears that this person named Jack was visiting a...

    HAPP NEW YEAR!

Well !!!! I'm doing my New Year thing. Took a big old Ham bone with lots of meat left on it and in the pot it went , it's cooking. I added a nice ( fat sweet ) Onion diced and a large hand full of diced Celery. Letting all of it simmer now that I removed all the ham from the bone. Just added a...

Just like all of mine , Chartreuse with HOT Pink racing stripes , black chin straps and a Peacock feather trailing from the back of it. I only wear it when I wear the purple racing jersey that has flaming red stripes ( outlined with reflective Orange pin strips ) down each arm and up each side...
