I bought some foam brushes at Lowes and hated them! With the Raka epoxy at cool-ish temperatures they were not nearly as stiff as I prefer. They also came apart quickly.
Does anyone have a source for cheap foam brushes that are stiffer and hold up better?
They are probably okay for using...
Tomorrow I should be able to final sand the whole outside of the hull and maybe epoxy on the gunwales if I get that far.
By the way, I am heading out to get Marley's staples out. The vet emailed a report that said they found no malignancy after more testing. It isn't a full guarantee, but it...
I did a sanding of the whole outside, but didn't go far enough to get rid of all the weave everywhere. I decided another very light coat of epoxy was in order before final sanding of the outside.
She had been having trouble with slick surfaces in the house (engineered wood flooring). We were putting throw rugs and towels everywhere because she balked at walking in much of the house or slipped often.
I guess that maybe it is not so much of an issue now though because after her surgery...
So at least a couple applications. I figure that the glass can be considered filled and still have texture showing, so I can see maybe leaving the weave pattern visible with the cloth filled, but not sanded off flat. I'll put off the decision until I get there.
Thanks!
The second coat of epoxy is on the outside this morning! I rolled it on with a 4" foam roller and tipped it with a foam brush. The places where cloth had pulled away and left a blister along one edge seem to be successfully re-adhered. I could really no longer see where they were...
Thanks. I enjoyed the movie. Too bad it didn't show the paddles better but I get the idea. I had seen some pictures of paddles kind of like that in pirogue pictures and wondered about the notches. The pictures actually sometimes showed more prominent notches and straighter sides unless I am...
The glass is on and it went well except for some separating from the edge on one side. It went beyond what the rails will cover so I wetted it out in only those spots again and clamped it to get adhesion. I used plastic wrap as a release sheet. Once that is set, I'll put a light coat or two...
I have the liberty of tinkering with a variety of what is on hand. I have never embraced the use of double bladed paddles in canoes, but may try one in the pirogue for the heck of it.
I have never tried a push pole.
I do still wonder if there is any traditional style of paddle that is unique...
As my pirogue project progresses I am contemplating what I will paddle it with. I have a bunch of paddles around including some nice canoe paddles and some okay sea kayak paddles. I even have some nice white water kayak paddles of various specializations. My guess is that a canoe paddle or...
I have had good luck in the past without pre-sealing the wood and the weather looks like it will hit a high for the week before a cooler front rolls in at 4pm. The drop at 4pm looks like a quick one followed by a pretty steady temperature for the following 24 hours The shop is connected to the...
So my typical habit of working in the early morning may not be the best idea.
I do have a little oil filled electric space heater that I sometimes put under projects to make slow epoxy set in cool weather. I could warm up the boat and then turn it down in increments. I would be cutting my...
The hull is faired, and glass is spread over it ready for epoxy. I may not get to the epoxy until tomorrow though. Any last minute advice before I epoxy it? It has been years, well decades actually, since I have done any glass work.
Yeah, quite unusual I think, but a fortunate combination. Looking at her I would have never guessed what she is. I would have said lab mix. She is a great dog in any case.
