Nice trout. Lots of satisfaction catching fish from a boat you built.

Ok. If I'm looking at the same picture of the bottom, I took that to be a fiberglass butt joint. I think the design is "sit on top" and the floor may have a false bottom and that is stepped. I don't know for sure, just a guess.

What are you seeing? I thought it is a shallow V bottom. Why would that add to the drag?

    A Bayou Dorcheat Pirogue

We finally got the boat out for a couple trips. My son slimed it good both days. Two trips may not be conclusive but I am very happy with the design changes. The "whale tail" stern creates less drag than a flat back transom. The added volume in the stern section adds to the capacity. It...

I used a "gritty" additive on one boat. It worked well enough, but it wore the paint off my chairs. Maybe I used too much. The bed liner "seems" to also offer some scuff/scratch resistance. Not saying it is better but it does a good job. A heads up for anyone using the Goop Coat It for the...

It is a good design for you. The "V" floor has to add a lot of stiffness. The materials reduce the weight considerably. Joey always reminds me that reducing the boats length removes materials from the center of the boat. That is where most of the weight per foot is. Another question if you...

Not an Uncle John Pirogue Seat

Another fun project. My son and I built these corn hole boxes. A simple game that has become very popular, and can be very serious by some players. Fun to play and fun to build.

Under 20lbs. is impressive. How thick are your strips? What weight cloth, and how many layers? Thanks

The transom has a batter board of sorts. My hope is the "narrow at the floor" transom and the "wale tale" shaped batter board will help with the drag associated with "skiff" style transoms. I hope it works because it took me three tries to shape and fit it.

I'm impressed with the clear finish. Is it automotive coating? Did you spray it? If so, what kind of sprayer/set up?

A fishing trip would be great. I'm south right now dealing with Hurricane Idea damage that I put off doing. Your boat looks fantastic and the light weight has to be a joy. My boat does have a "bump rail" or outside gunnel. Protects the sides but also helps cover/seal the plywood's edges. The...

"Square stern" is an acceptable correct answer. Technically it may be classed as something else because it has other features that make it not square. It is not pointed so "square stern" is ok.

Thanks guys for the compliments. :) I hope the slight changes will make a differance. I'm surprised Jack hasn't noticed the most obvious one.

Very, very nice. No doubt about what that boat is made of. Nice fish also. I also noticed the boots, but I'm confused. Where is the mud? I have not found a way to go and not get some mud in the boat.

A few years ago I built my Son a pirogue we called a Lake Bistineau pirogue because of the similar fiberglass boats in the area. https://www.southernpaddler.com/community/threads/a-lake-bistineau-pirogue.9886/ This is an updated and improved(we hope) version. I will call it a Bayou Dorcheat...

    Gator Skiff

I recently got a compliment on this boat, or I took it as one. The 14 yr. old owner's Dad told me with the approach of hurricane Idea the boy did not want the boat to blow away so he brought it inside to his room. I'm glad he thought enough of the boat to care. I'm also glade he did because...

Seedtick and Joey made it thru OK. Mostly everybody without power and in cleanup mode. Not pleasant but if you and your family are safe it will work out.
