    Pirogue Paddle?

Thanks. I enjoyed the movie. Too bad it didn't show the paddles better but I get the idea. I had seen some pictures of paddles kind of like that in pirogue pictures and wondered about the notches. The pictures actually sometimes showed more prominent notches and straighter sides unless I am...

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

The glass is on and it went well except for some separating from the edge on one side. It went beyond what the rails will cover so I wetted it out in only those spots again and clamped it to get adhesion. I used plastic wrap as a release sheet. Once that is set, I'll put a light coat or two...

    Pirogue Paddle?

I have the liberty of tinkering with a variety of what is on hand. I have never embraced the use of double bladed paddles in canoes, but may try one in the pirogue for the heck of it. I have never tried a push pole. I do still wonder if there is any traditional style of paddle that is unique...

    Pirogue Paddle?

As my pirogue project progresses I am contemplating what I will paddle it with. I have a bunch of paddles around including some nice canoe paddles and some okay sea kayak paddles. I even have some nice white water kayak paddles of various specializations. My guess is that a canoe paddle or...

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

I have had good luck in the past without pre-sealing the wood and the weather looks like it will hit a high for the week before a cooler front rolls in at 4pm. The drop at 4pm looks like a quick one followed by a pretty steady temperature for the following 24 hours The shop is connected to the...

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

So my typical habit of working in the early morning may not be the best idea. I do have a little oil filled electric space heater that I sometimes put under projects to make slow epoxy set in cool weather. I could warm up the boat and then turn it down in increments. I would be cutting my...

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

The hull is faired, and glass is spread over it ready for epoxy. I may not get to the epoxy until tomorrow though. Any last minute advice before I epoxy it? It has been years, well decades actually, since I have done any glass work.

Yeah, quite unusual I think, but a fortunate combination. Looking at her I would have never guessed what she is. I would have said lab mix. She is a great dog in any case.

Will do. Here is a pic of Marley from 2014. Despite looking like a lab mix, she is actually a German Shepard, Rottweiler, welsh cardigan corgi mix.

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

Yeah, I really look forward to being able to take Marley out in the pirogue and it looks like maybe we will have many chances to be on the water together or worst case at least have some chance to get out. At this point she is feeling good and needs to be kept from doing more than the vet...

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

I am flipping the hull and working on fairing all the edges and stems this morning. Also good news on Marley's pathology report... Her spleen was removed and is still undergoing testing, but initial testing has shown no malignancy. So thus far it looks like a non malignant cyst that ruptured...

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

At this point I think it is pretty safe to say it will float. I think the question is how far back will you have to stand to not see the mistakes.

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

More progress... I glued the bottom on and was dissatisfied that it wasn't attached reliably enough for proceeding so I taped the edge every few inches with blue painters tape, turned it right side up and added an epoxy fillets on the inside. The fillets are partially set up and everything...

    Paint

I think it will be okay. I am just going with olive drab at this point not full camo. I may go full camo later though and if I do I will set a waypoint on my gps so I can find it :)

    Paint

My paint arrived today as promised. It will be at least a few days before I am ready to use it though.

I see that your Jon Boat with long tail drive was on the Ochlocknee River. That isn't too far from home for me here in Tallahassee unless there is another Ochlocknee River. I have not been getting out much during the pandemic, but I'd be interested in seeing that boat some time. Pete

    A Winter Project for Jack.

I started out building makeshift motorbikes as a kid with bicycle frames, lawnmower engines, and small rear wheels. They had a centrifugal clutch if we could get one, but most often were just direct drive. I had to hide the projects from my parents since that activity was forbidden. Later as...

    A Winter Project for Jack.

Lacing up bicycle wheels is actually a pleasant relaxing task once you learn how. I still need to have text directions or pictures in front of me when doing it, but find it enjoyable.

    A Winter Project for Jack.

An entertaining but rather stupid project. I suspect the sole purpose was to get YouTube hits and make money. At more then 37 million views I'd say it was successful at both. As far as it making any sense or wanting to ride it, I'll pass. I'd rather put some sheet metal screws in the knobs...

Thanks. I scarfed the joints on the sides and that is pretty much how I did them.
