    Boat build with PVC/vinyl sheeting?

I'll take the advice of experts. (That's the po-lite way to say I'm too lazy to try to prove ya wrong :-) Not arguing with either of you - the idea was just a "wonder 'bout" for a disposable boat. No sense knocking something together with flashing if heavy vinyl or luan doorskin is more likely...

    Boat build with PVC/vinyl sheeting?

A while back, I notice Home Despot had aluminum flashing, 14" x 20 ft for $10. Stronger than vinyl, and possibly stiff enough with gunwales and inwales to use only a minimal frame.

Taut-Line Hitch , adjusting the lines when camping

Just found this - thanks! The only other knot I'd suggest is the sheet bend. It is used to join lines that are different sizes (the reef knot will slip if the sizes are not pretty close). http://www.ia470.com/primer/rope.htm Also fun: the six boy scout knots.

    Boat build with PVC/vinyl sheeting?

Forgot to add this: there is an Instructable about a PVC & polytarp kayak. It's definitely a "I wonder if I could do this?" rather than something I've let my kid in :-)

    Boat build with PVC/vinyl sheeting?

Thomas Yost makes kayaks using this method. Here is his section on PVC skinning. He's even got plans for an inflatable version that uses internal sponsons as part of the frame. He's made a couple with clear vinyl, like the example above (http://yostwerks.com/SeaRiderVinyl.html) Very complete...

    Easiest build

Too bad they cleaned up the Cuyahoga, aka "The river that caught fire". That paint scheme would blend right in with the oil slicks! Maybe you could patent it as "Exxon Camouflage".

    "Military" weapons

Re: Wikipedia has a pretty good write-up. C&R licenses are supposed to be a little easier and a little cheaper than an FFL. 50 years got a lot more interesting in 1995, since WWII surplus became available. Even better are weapons 100 yrs old or more - no restrictions at all, unless covered...

    Trouble with a dog

Is this one of those "fill in the punchline jokes"? Finally, the alderman is fed up. "Why are you calling me anyway? What do you want me to do?" The man is just as fed up, "How bout you come and talk to him, one SOB to another?"

    Survival kit.......group design

Re: My wife asked what I was laughing about, so I showed her this. I said, "You know, if I were a little younger, I'd add condoms to the list" She said, "You'd have to be better looking too!" Ouch.

    The Swamper- new design

Sounds good. Now, if you could figure out how to use a keg (full, of course) for positive floation, I believe you'd win a Nobel prize.

    Senior Moment.

I was at Costco this weekend picking up a few things. The lines at the self-serve checkout seemed the shortest, so I went there. When it came time to checkout, I couldn't get the scanner to read my card. I tried it, polished it up, and tried it again, waved it back and forth - no luck. After...

    Why no one invades Switzerland

Ohio has an open carry law, but there is an exception for automobiles. There's also a prevision in the state law that pre-empts local ordinances. Cops can still use "Inducing Panic" or "Disorderly Conduct" to harass. You still need a CCW to openly (or concealed, I guess) carry a firearm in a...

    Why no one invades Switzerland

There's another country you'd better think twice 'bout messin' with: Israeli reservists. Wonder where they keep the magazines? On second thought, I'd rather not find out the hard way.
