    Arizona desert photos

I thought I would share a few photos of the things I see every day in my job. I spend most of my time in pretty remote areas in the desert. I always have my camera handy. Lunchtime. This osprey is having fish again. I was at one of my well houses in a pretty remote area when...

    Planning new powered pirogue

CJ I looked at these boats a while back and they have some interesting designs. I think I am going to use a new design for my electric boat project. I'm working on the details now. Between the Swamp Girl I am about 3/4 of the way through, these two electric pirogues, and the Freedom 15...

    first boat build

That's a good looking boat and stringer of fish. I am taking a three week vacation, the first three weeks of April, to go back home to northeast Texas. Plan to spend all of it crappie fishing. I wish I had my Swamp Girl ready, but it's not going to completed until I get back. I haven't missed...

    Planning new powered pirogue

BEARS BUDDY Was the motor you shortened a composite shaft? I have cut and shortened a couple of metal shaft motors without problem. All of the newer Minn Kota's are composite shaft. I talked to a guy at a service center who said that all of the composite shafts he had seen cut later split...

    Planning new powered pirogue

I looked at this boat, but it would be a problem where I would fish because of the fixed position of the motor. Where I fish there is usually quite a bit of moss. I want a boat that I can tilt the motor if needed. I also like to be able to raise the motor up as high as possible in thick stuff. I...

Reelfoot and Natchez Trace state parks in TN

I can't tell you how homesick those pictures make me feel. Arizona is beautiful in it's own right, but those pictures make me want to be back home. Things like being able to take my pirogue out after getting home from work were special, and I think I took them for granted.

    No fishing partner?

I see the same thing on Friday mornings on the Colorado river at Willow Beach below Hoover Dam. There is a federal hatchery there and they stock on Fridays. The people come from Las Vegas and elsewhere to catch these little fish. They really think they have accomplished something to catch a...

    Planning new powered pirogue

Mac Glad you are interested in this project. This type of boat works great in the swamp, but I have not found one available that I liked. The Bobcats are nice boats, but they are heavy enough that you really need a trailer. Also, something's just not right about a metalflake pirogue. I pretty...

    Planning new powered pirogue

Joey, I think you are probably right about most southern walnut. Most of what I have seen over the years is junk, with too much white sapwood on it. Most of the old, really big trees here were cut many years ago. I bought some standing trees from an old man, the land had been in his family for...

    Planning new powered pirogue

Hello All. I ordered the plans for the Swamp Girl tonight from JEM. Even if I don't build this boat. I will enjoy looking over the plans. I think we need to support our local boat designers. If we don't, they might be tempted to get an honest job. Then where would we be on our next boat? Draw...

    Planning new powered pirogue

Hello Mr Bald Cypress The name of the sawmill is Cecil Phillips, De Kalb, Texas. They are in the business of selling lumber, so they should not mind me posting their name on the net. They are a specialty hardwood sawmill. Definately not the largest, but what they have is quality. You should...

    Planning new powered pirogue

Hello Thanks to all for your quick response to my post. Jack. I looked at the boats with the squared off transom above the waterline. Interesting boats. I am from a little town in east Texas called De Kalb. It is about 30 miles west of Texarkana, the town where my wife and I were born and...

    Planning new powered pirogue

Greetings. I have just joined the group after spending a few days reading most of the old posts. There is obviously a lot of knowledge and experience here, and I don't mind asking for advice. I am planning to build a trolling motor powered pirogue. I am not just going to clamp a motor to the...
