    Thanks guys.

The boat build that would never end...

First coat of varnish on in <20 minutes. Wow, what a difference a roller makes. Rolled then tipped. I'm happy. :D

Bottom's already glassed and epoxied. Varnish will be purely a UV protectant.

The boat build that would never end...

Status update: The Inside Is Done! :D Pictures a little blurry. Deck One thing I have learned is that I really don't like varnishing. Unfortunately, I've still got the bottom to do. God help me. :?

The boat build that would never end...

I just re-read that. My wife's the same way. Sometimes, just for fun, I will leave something out of place just to see how long it takes her to stash it somewhere.

The boat build that would never end...

I'm trying my hardest not to finish this thing, but damn if I didn't pull out the can of varnish today. I'm thinking one more coat on the topsides and then I'll flip it and start on the bottom. Give me about 6 months and I should be done. I also put a first coat on my chair...

    New Dutch Oven

I recently bought a Dutch Oven with some birthday gift cards that have been lying around for the last few months. Piper's mastery of that particular camping implement on our holiday trip had me thinking... "I gotta get me one of those" We were hoping to get a camping trip in this...

    SS@G Northwind

Ok, what just happened there? Did you remove the arrow detail for the other design? The arrow was very subtle in the early photos (bare wood) and didn't "pop" until you had the glass on. Got any other gems you're hidding from us?

New Pirogue Comes Home to Roost

After looking at your photobucket site, I have to say that I'm somewhat concerned that only 2 of 13 pictures show the boat in the proper paddling position: open side up. You have done this before, right

The boat build that would never end...

I physically scraped most of the "gummy" varnish after I found it. Not a whole heck of a lot, just on one deck (and a small spot on the gunwale). I guess the concept for repair I had in mind was something like this; "re-flowing." Thought I'd wipe-it-down/work-in some thinner to get rid of the...

The boat build that would never end...

Re: The home stretch Had a little hic-up this morning, while sanding my second coat of varnish on the decks and rails. I had waited well past the 18 hours recommended on the can (zspar flagship) and was lightly sanding (220 grit) with my random orbital sander when one of the decks just got all...

    Buckboard Bacon

So I guess we were too busy licking our lips (and our fingers) once the meat came off the grill. Only a couple pics of the bacon... My new rig. Happy Birthday to me! Slowly warming up to 150° Didn't want that little piggy to be lonely Turkey legs, baby back ribs, stuffed and wrapped...

Where or How do I start?

Here is a very good book for a strip built canoe: Canoecraft I've read this book about 1 1/2 times. I plan to read it at least one more time before I start my Prospector. Of course, in the mean time, I bought plans for the Uncle John Pirogue (a MUCH simpler build) and I'm still putzing around...

    Buckboard Bacon

I would like to clear up a bit of FALSE ADVERTISING by the original poster, islandpiper. In the first post of this thread, he stated: This is an outright lie! This stuff is not "SIMPLY" amazing, it is ABSOLUTELY amazing, on many different levels. If I manage not to eat it all...

    Buckboard Bacon

Nope. Missed it. Man, my mouth is watering thinking about it. That and my salsa on some eggs and/or hashbrowns. Geez, I better get off of here...

    Buckboard Bacon

Piper... I pulled out of the driveway and realized I forgot to talk to you about this :? Oh well, I guess geezerdom cannot be avoided... Anyway, I split it last night. Going by one of your earlier posts "you can't hardly over cure it" I made up a smaller batch of the cure, sugar, etc., and...
