    RENDEZVOUS 2011

Another success! Got there a little late, left a little early, but still a good time. The food, the company, the boats, the _______ (fill in the blank) was exceptional once again. Thanks to piper for again hosting this great get together.

    Buckboard Bacon

Ah....that thought had crossed my mind. I was also considering brining it. Oh well. I guess I'll split it. We'll talk tomorrow.

    Buckboard Bacon

After first seeing this post, then actually sampling the product "in the wild," I must say, the thought of making my own "buckboard bacon" has been occupying a significant portion of my brain. Well, today, while shopping for ingredients for tomorrow's salsa, I picked up a Boston Butt and a...

The boat build that would never end...

Nope. Unfortunately, I've had some family plans come up unexpectedly that may prevent me attending at all. I'm trying to work those issues out right now... :?

The boat build that would never end...

Yeah, actually, i think it is bigger than 1/2". Not quite 3/4", maybe 5/8". Of course, rounding it over with the router makes it look a little bigger.

The boat build that would never end...

Nothing special. Red Oak from Home Depot. Just the way I did it. Drilling a 1/2" hole into a 15' boat was a lot easier than a 6" triangular piece of wood. No messing with clamps or anything.

    Brass, stainless, something else?

galvanic series I found this prettty extensive list on the net. If you must have dissimilar metals in contact with one another, try to get them as close together on this chart as possible.

    Bubble Tents..........

Pretty cool. I don't know how much those bean bag chairs would pack down, though?!?

The boat build that would never end...

...is nearing an end. For those of you may not recall, I started building an Uncle John's Pirogue a little while back http://www.southernpaddler.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6150 For whatever reasons (I'll skip the excuses) I've just never finished the damn thing. I've already...

    Spudholes

I was clicking through some old bookmarks the other day and found this: Spudholes Pretty neat concept. A hull thru-hole with a glassed PVC pipe to drive your cajun anchor (stick) through and keep you stationary. I was just wondering how many folks have seen something like this before. BTW...

    Mississippi Lead Fling

I seem to recall relaying a very similar story at our freezing-camp-out-on-the-bayou trip in December. It ended with my son saying "You mean we can't burn the chairs in the campfire?"

    A Homeless Man's Funeral

I got this in an email today. I thought this would be a good place to share it... As a bagpiper, I play many gigs. Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man. He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper's cemetery in the...

Pellet Panic What to do. HELP

My recent trip with Piper and Joey must have given me "the itch" 'cause I've been poking around this sub-forum for the past couple of weeks. I went to http://www.SportsAuthority.com and found the Crossman 1377 for $49.99 as well. They were advertising a $0.99 shipping deal, so I clicked the...

    Trip Betwixt the Holidays

I definitely hadn't anticipated the wind to influence the water level. The bayou that runs through my neighborhood is influenced by the wind, but we're less than 10 river miles inland from Lake Pontchartain. Grays Creek is at least double that distance inshore from Lake Maurepas. Only...

    Trip Betwixt the Holidays

Well, after only one day, I know I was smelling pretty ripe. I'd hate to think of what I would have smelled like after two nights. I was shocked to hear how much the water came up over night. Did yall have any inkling that it would? I never would have guessed that.
