    pirogue X two

There seems to be a problem with the photo sharing site I was using, so I am trying Photobucket. Anyway, Hey Chuck, look, I found you the motor system for your skiff: http://www.pedalpro.com and such a bargain, "Our current price is just $3250 USD!! "

Looks like you are doing a great job on these two. I have been contemplating building one of these since Matt sent me the link to a start up of this boat over on his site, http://www.jemwatercraft.com/forum/view ... 88&start=0 I can't wait to see the rest of your project and hear a report on how...

Some of the carpenters I worked with called that 2" caulk.

    pirogue X two

So let me get this straight,...don't stand out on the limb before you saw it off the tree? I was considering cutting the stern off, then fitting a transom,.. easy, scribe to fit, cut it out and glass it in. You think it might spread and loose it's shape if I do that? It is already...

    pirogue X two

Well, I was back at WE$T Marine and saw a larger diameter set of oarlocks 2 1/4" compared to the 2" I had. I found the manager and talked him into trading me. (I didn't have the packaging any more) He flinched but helped me out. Now I don't need to get into the oar making business trying to fix...

    pirogues ? in Nepal ?

If it walks like a duck........., & Looks like a duck..... The way the sides are cut, I am surprised it still has so much rocker, I guess that is caused by the wide beam?

    "We Be Skiffin'...."

"Go on with your bad self Jack" Let us know how that works out for ya. Flowery shelf non skid? At least your teacup won't slide kayakin' down the creek. There is a product called Seadek that is supposed to be pretty good stuff, haven't checked out how much it weighs or anything. The micro...

    "We Be Skiffin'...."

I like the texture mat has as far as a non-skid surface, but my fiberglass Guru tells me, as you say, "it eats up epoxy" and compared to the other fabric types, it yields relatively low strength. Mat has been recommended to me for use as a thickness builder when laying up multiple layers of glass.

    "We Be Skiffin'...."

Jack, since the bottom is only 4mm, less than quarter inch, it will be glassed both sides and also have the outside stringers like the ones Uncle John used on the first one. I am going to suggest glassing the outside first, then flip it over and do the bow compartment first. If that doesn't seem...

    "We Be Skiffin'...."

We got a little more done on pardner's skiff. We got the gussets cut and installed. I kinda think the gussets would have been neater and easier if we had put them on when we put put the ribs together. They could have been sanded to fit at that point instead of needing to hand fit each one after...

I have started the Bayou Skiff....

Chuck, I'm glad I just read your last post, I haven't even used the Bayou Skiff "Lite" 4 times yet and I find myself still looking at boat plans. I was looking in the phone book for a 12 step program for addictive boat building. I couldn't find one so I am thinking of opening a West Florida...

    Done.... Finally!

Nice job on the boat Capt., just wondering where you got the paddle in the photos? Looks like it is a long one, maybe just an illusion from the pix. I am looking for a longer paddle for my rig.

handmade or deja vu all over again

Why did you chop out around that knot on the top? Is that just "exploratory surgery" ? I used rough cut cypress on our boats, fairly freshly cut, and water would weep out of it when we cut it (re-saw), is that cant like that? How do you tell when it is about right to start working on a project...

    Bayou Skiff stability.

I have to guess he is fairly comfy up there, because I don't see any little "wiggle wakes" like you can see in this photo of the first time I stood up in my skiff. I am a lot more comfortable now, but you can see what I mean.

    "We Be Skiffin'...."

As far as the speed of this boat build, it being the third one I have been involved with, there are steps you can do while you wait for the glue to dry, that aren't evident to you if you haven't done it before. We sanded the ribs before we glued them up, because it was a pain to do them when...

    "We Be Skiffin'...."

We tried our hand at scarf joints for the sides, they turned out a lot better this time, as you can maybe see from the photo. we used BS 1088 Okume. It is 4mm, which in retrospect might be marginally thin for the bottom, but we are going to use stringers on the bottom as per UJ's plans, and it...

Do you paint or wax the end grain to keep it from drying out to fast and splitting? In other words, what's the blue stuff on the end grain?

    pirogue X two

Dry run before we tote the boats to the water. Definitely need to rebuild the oars, as in spend some time with my belt sander, one is way past the specs called out in the catalog (larger diameter), so it doesn't want to rotate properly in the oarlock. Typical stuff, "Do it again, Doug". I will...

    swamp pirogue

Man, oh man, is my wife gonna be surprised when I tell her I actually want to go see my in-laws in Houston. I have driven there and back from Tampa Bay, and both ways I seem to remember going thru your area around noon, so I'll take you up on your generous offer one day. I seem to remember some...

    "We Be Skiffin'...."

Uncle John's Bayou Skiff, "in a box" showed up at my doorstep yesterday. I gotta say, their service rocks, third time I have ordered a kit from them, and delivery has always been very prompt. That's nice in this day and age of "who gives a sh*t? " The fellow who is building the boat with me...
