Pretty neat Beekeeper, and you guys ain't just "pushin' my leg" when you say it steers better from the bow. That is how I had the Minn Kota rigged on my flats skiff. I turned the head around and used the transom mount TM on the bow. Unfortunately, the mount is made to be used 180 from that...

Now you've got something..... I can feel me banking into those turns already, "It's like flying", vroom, vroom.

    Springfield XD / XDM

I have an XD in 45 and an XDM in .40S&W. I enjoy both of them, like the way they shoot, and they both have pretty high capacity, and neither have EVER had a fail to function (kinda important). That said, I like my Glocks, and my 1911, and my Kahr and my revolvers. Point of the story, guns is...

The Bassyak company. http://www.bassyaks.com has a very similar system, with the exception of their peddles, which slide on a rail instead of rotating on a hinge. All these, including all my far fetched ideas, have one thing in common, they are all SYSTEMS, full of complications of one sort or...

I know, I know, that's how it is on the tug boat too, "What have you done for me lately?"

An 'Atta Boy",....? Well, alright! Thanks for the encouragement, but the boat I run for a living uses 360 degree azimuth drives, sorta like joysticks I guess, I'm not sure I'd remember how those round, spokey thingy's are supposed to work. Like you said, probably a little large for this...

Kayak Jack once asked if I was going to do some sort of remote control for the proposed trolling motor so I could sit in the middle of the boat to keep her trimmed properly. That was always a consideration, but I have been looking around at the various methods out there to do that, and none of...

Oldsparkeys , Bayou Skiff test run.

Finest Kind Chuck. In that one shot it looks like it is about to levitate off the water. Tell us more, what'cha gonna do about the oars? your seat in the boat? how'd ya get it to the lake? did ya paddle it? stand up in it? OK, OK..... really nice, though. Great job.

When you bring the sides together at the stem, there is a small void left. It looks like you put an exterior or false stem on the bow to fill that void. Do you plane that void flat and put a triangular piece on the bow or trim to fit the sides? Does the bottom stand proud under that piece or...

I have started the Bayou Skiff....

Thanks for that, yes thinking further into what that would take, more time, glass, effort, weight, oh, and money...never mind. But, here's another one. What problems would you see in making the boat the full 14'-0 in length, leaving everything else the same?

I have started the Bayou Skiff....

Chuck, when you first started this boat, you were going to glass the sides and bottom before assembly, then changed your mind, apparently due to space constraints. Do you think the method is still something to try? I was thinking of glassing the inside surfaces prior to putting them together...

handmade or deja vu all over again

I saw that part also, and I'm guessing it was the builders method for gauging the exact thickness of the hull in that area, then he just has to keep both sides fair to keep the thickness consistent. When he gets the thickness he wants, he just bungs the hole with a dowel and he is good to go...

    "We Be Skiffin'...."

A fellow tug boat captain I work with, after watching me build my two Uncle John's pirogue/skiff, (pirogue X 2) has decided to jump in the boat so to speak. He wanted a boat a bit larger than my skiff "Lite" turned out, so I showed him the real Bayou Skiff and he fell in love immediately, pulled...

handmade or deja vu all over again

Thank you for taking the time to include us in your progress of this movie re-make. You might need to take time out to build a T-Shirt Shack out by the road to sell autographed t shirts and hats, maybe print up some of those Movie Star Maps and put 'em down at the "Pick & Grab Gas Station" so...

I got all the hardware, oarlock and socket, at West Marine. Both are bronze, cost just under $50.00 with the sales tax. I think you could maybe save a little online, but bronze hardware goes at a premium, 'cause it's MARINE grade. Any time you title a piece of hardware marine, RV, or for...

Polynesians sailed from here to there with only a oar for a rudder, should work for us.

Oh thanks Chuck...! I thought I was just about done with this project. Now you remind me I am not finished with the sail rig. I have a neat little 14'-0 tapered hollow mast I found in a garage sale. Weighs less than 5 lbs. I think it is made of spruce. It has a roller sheave at the mast head, I...

    pirogue X two

Chuck, when the zinc hardware gets rusty and beat up, West Marine has the same style you got, clamp-on and angle mount, only made in stainless. I got two oars that were definitely hand made. Two different diameters, so of course one oarlock fits nicely, the other had to be "bored out" some...
