The sides were definitely a challenge. It became apparent early on the importance of wetting out the entire top first, working to the edges, then evenly down the sides. I only have a handful of bubbles to fix. They are mostly around the stems, where I had the glass overlapping from one side...

Epoxy, then varnish. I put the "pretty" face of the plywood on the outside. I'll paint the inside.

Each new step seems to be more stressful than the last. Today's step: wetting out the fiberglass. All in all, it went well. As with the other tasks, my technique seemed to improve as I progressed. I'm still waiting for the epoxy to cure a little more before I pull the tape. One lesson I...

Fiberglass cloth cut to size: Now all I need is more resin. I've only got a few pumps left. I'd run out to West Marine, but seeing as my wife is slaving away in the yard right now, that might not be the wisest of choices. :x It'll have to wait.

I was starting to get jittery. Glad the forum is back up. Did my saturation coat on the exterior. Went pretty easy. I've settled on using the plastic spreaders from Home Depot. And you might want to get your cardiologist to read this chart: Fiberglass cloth was delivered...

    Plywood - Ultraply XL

Sounds like the stuff I'm using: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6150 I'm putting the pretty side out, painting the interior. My EKG bottom: I found two small voids when I cut out the bottom. Otherwise, it's seems fine.

Fiberglass cloth ordered. In the mean time, I started "testing" epoxy applicators for the saturation coat on the interior, which will be painted. First test, one of my wife's craft foam paint brushes. Result: FAIL. Left lots of little bubbles (or "dubbles" as the 3yo says) and bled a little...

What filler are you using? I am using the West System epoxies and used the coloidal silica (#406, I think). Took a little while to get it mixed up, but it thickened up good. I threw in some wood flour and it really thickened up.

    New build - first build

That's a nice solution, 'tick. 8) Been meaning to ask when I saw this before; is that a rope hole? flagpole holder? picnic umbrella holder?

    New build - first build

I like your decks. I've been trying to figure out what to do at the ends of my pirogue. How to attach a rope? Carrying handles/loops? etc. etc. I'm thinking I may build a small deck, but leave it open, and incorporate a handle into the design. My mind is running... Get back to work...

I'm nervous about glassing the bottom of mine. Looks like yours came out pretty good. Sweet. 8)

Re: the EKG panel... That was the replacement piece I went and purchased after my first little mishap (shown somewhere earlier in this thread). The ply was a little spalted and looked interesting. More likely, it was the first decent sheet in the stack at Lowe's. Re: flat vs. roundish...

More baby steps  I've got my inside fillets done. Today I flipped the boat and trimmed off the excess on the bottom panel. First I used a flush trim bit on the router, but there was still a little bit left. I tried the round over bit, but because of the angle of the sides, I still...

    something different

Saw this at Jazz Fest today: Kieth and seedtick, yall need to come down here and show them how it's done!

Between Jazz Fest and the school fair, I managed to do all the inside fillets this weekend. Still need to sand them smooth. I had an interesting occurrence when I made up a "big" batch of epoxy... after mixing the epoxy and hardener, I started mixing in the silica filler. Took me a while to...

Notice how my pictures are zoomed in? The subject fills the frame? When I get home this evening I'll post a wide angle shot. Ask my wife, I've never been accused of being neat.

That's a pretty boat Chuck! :D I took a couple more baby steps today. Took off the clamps and flipped it. Hey, it looks like a boat now! 8) Made up a small batch of epoxy and silica and filleted one end of the pirogue. So now I have one data point on mixing epoxy - three pumps is enough...

Chuck - as usual, I hit the "submit" button a little too quick. I wanted to mention my next steps, and some rationale behind them. First off, yes, it's glue-glue. Titebond III. It says it's water proof. I'll never find out for sure (on this project, at least), cause the whole darn thing is...
