    Kevlar???

-- I've had good luck with a sharp pair of sewing shears. Just cut slowly and deliberately.

    Hairies Laker

Well, Hairy is definitely set up to fish in any direction, anyway!

    Hairies Laker

-- Very nice! Are there any laws in Oz about how many lines you can have in the water at one time?

-- That's just it, I'm here, not there. Apologies, and I've edited my previous post.

    boy scout kayak

-- I know, I know, but his cheap canoe is ... cheap, and easy to build.

    boy scout kayak

Actually, this is also what ******* at ****** recommends too, for his "cheap canoe." I glassed the entire thing to get some experience before I started building my sailboat. Two gallons of epoxy would go a long way doing it that way, maybe even enough for the entire troop. Joel

    boy scout kayak

Hey now, SOF's are plenty tough, but, you're right, we've been surprised that most of our kayaks that we've sold have been to the retirement set. Currently, we're ironing out the cost for teaching a three day class down at a Chicago area kayak shop. Each of the students will take a...

    boy scout kayak

It looks like most of the power tool usage is done by the adults before the class. Top of Page 3 - "First, the plywood is cut into the body panels, the spreader boards are cut and shaped, and all of the remaining parts are cut out. The body panels will be given to the boys a week or two...

    Chuck Style trip completed

Looks like a fun trip! Makes me long for the days of lazy paddling on the Chippewa River, camping, and catfishing.

    New Black Dog Completion

I just received pics from one of our builders, so I had to brag on him a little bit. I'll post more pics when he puts on the finishing touches. Bruce, from South Dakota, finished his Greenland Style Kayak this past week. He's still waiting on his seat, backband, deck rigging, and trim, as...

Which boat, LONG and lots of pics....

-- I also vote for the Lutra Laker. I was scrolling through the pictures and when I got to the bow shot of the Laker I said, "That's a nice boat!" Plus, with lapstrake construction, the panels are smaller, which is a benefit if you're working in a garage.

    More Paddles

Nice work on the paddles, and, Reds, as usual, your woodburning work is amazing. I need to buy myself another iron and try my hand at it again.

What do you build on? (Seeking ideas)

-- That's pretty much what I build on too. A plywood table top on a frame of 2x4's. Here's the best I can do on short notice for a pic:

    Kayak Backband

We added the Black Dog Kayaks SOF Backband to our catalog last night. As the name states, it's designed for skin on frame kayaks, but it wouldn't take much to make it work for a hardshell kayak, although, that would be up to you to figure out how. We've priced it fairly low compared to other...

    Making Flotation Bags

-- Mick, that's the Black Dog Greenland Style Kayak. We have shipped internationally to the UK and to Canada at a reasonable cost, so I'm sure we could ship one to Oz. I have made drybags for my camera and my cell phone. With the larger bag, just leave out the inflation tube...

    Black Dog Greenland Style Kayak

-- Mick, that's my Black Dog Greenland Style Kayak and we do ship internationally. We've shipped to the UK and to Canada at a reasonable cost. How hard could it be to ship to Oz? Or, maybe we could fly the kit there as checked baggage and work in some Australian paddling...

    Making Flotation Bags

-- I get the hose from a local hardward store, 3/8's, I think, but you can take the valve with you to the store to fit it. The HH-66 is available online from Rochford Supply although you may have to pay more for hazardous shipping, or, at least, shipping will be slow since it has to go...

    Making Flotation Bags

I can't take credit for the info. Cunningham, the editor of Sea Kayaker, gave the formula for measuring. I just simplified it a bit. Tom Yost, from http://www.yostwerks.com, came up with the HH-66 & clear vinyl part. The pics are mine though, and I've made several using this formula. Easy...

    Kayak Backband

Yes, it's not so much a backrest as it is help to lock in when paddling. It could be mounted a bit higher if a person wanted.
