    Ground Clothes

I use an old shower curtain cut to size. It is pretty tough and rolls up nicely. Bought a "footprint" from Campmore with an earlier tent....looks like heavy visqueen sheeting. Nock

    1st Timer Build Log

That stuff was responsible for the messiest work on my project. Just gluing some support blocks for the seat planks.....biggest dang mess! The blocks kept sliding around and of course, the foamy excess when it set. Never again!

    George L. Smith State Park

I have an old rod called a "Bream Buster" that has to be 0ver 40 years old. Thinking I'm going to have to dust it off and get my license. When I was younger and living in Gainesville, FL, I terrorized the bream and perch population in the area using that rod. Funny how...

    George L. Smith State Park

Seedtick, I did not stand on the rear deck. I did sit on it while paddling and even with Dave up front, the boat sat a bit high in the bow. If she were wider, that might not happen. Of course that would be at the price of nimbleness and ease in paddling. Nock

    George L. Smith State Park

After the initial trials with my punt, a plan was hatched to take a trek on Ebeneezer Creek near Savannah. After the rain the last two weeks, the creeks and rivers were flowing too hard for a trip that would be more testing of the boat's handling. One of the fellows said the Ogeechee river was...

    George L. Smith Park, GA

Check in trip reports for details on a day spent at George L. Smith State Park in SE Georgia. This park is a hidden gem in the GA parks system. Not over used and offers good camping and water activities. Thumbs up for sure!

More pics... I figured how to pick still images from the videos of the first trials. As before, it feels pretty stable when standing after you find your balance. She moves along fairly easily and responds to the paddle strokes. I didn't have a decent paddle for doing a J-stroke and had to...

She Floats! Yippee! She Floats! I took the punt out to a nearby lake for some preliminary trials. Here is an attempt at posting a video. The photographer accidentally turned the video mode on (I had never tried it) and I don't know how to pick still frames out out of the stream. If it doesn't...

Summary Joey, that is an intriguing rig. Definitely going to study it further. Here is a recap of changes I made during this build and a materials estimate.. For reference to the original plan see this link; http://www.duckworksbbs.com/plans/jim/p ... /index.htm The plans called for a length...

I hear a frog themed name for this boat coming from the peanut gallery. Looking good! I haven't gotten my project's bottom wet and the itch is starting again. Nockatee

Motivation... Bear, I figured I would do a "reverse" on how Gen. Oglethorpe did in the day. When taking settlers down to St. Simon's from Savannah in the scout boats and periaguas, he kept the barrels of Ale in the lead boat. That way the folks in the following boats were motivated to keep...

Bear wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole. Actually I have a nice piece of bamboo I snatched from a neighborhood stand (Yes, bamboo in the mountains) which brings up the question: How long should the pole be? I see old pictures of folks poling their craft where the sticks look quite...

LOOKEE HERE! Look at what I found outside, under the back deck! YIPPEE! The boat elves must have been busy........... I FOUND A NEARLY FINISHED BOAT! Just a few more angles..... There is a bit of touch up painting to be done topsides and on the bottom. Seat planks need to be fitted...

Dim Lights? Dim lighting. You have something there, sorta like the low lights in taverns. The women sho look better, especially when you have to squint and wear your beer goggles.

Stickbow, I "stole" that pic from the FF site.....just can't remember where. I do think it was waaaay back in the archives and can't recall who the fellows are. I have not been to Ft. Dobbs. Been to Tolouse. Just moved back South after a five year sojourn in Maine and am trying to get...
