    Colorado river trip

Those are indeed some great pics! It looks very similiar to New Mexico. We have the same problem with the Salt Cedar sucking up all the ground water around the river. The city went crazy and cut every Salt Cedar they could along the Rio Grande here in Albuquerque. It looks a little bare right...

    A great read

I read it too. It was a great story, that guy has a TON of determination. I did wish there were more pictures. They kept talking about a woodshop on board and I wanted to see that.

Finally got my solo canoe wet!

Obie, you are from my part of the country. I grew up in Madison. There is some great quiet water canoeing around there, and northern Wisconsin has some great canoeing water too. I don't really miss the mosquitoes or shoveling though :D Nobucks, I bought a set of plans for the 14' version...

No doubt about it, that is a beautiful canoe. 8) Someday I hope to paddle something like that just to see how fast canoes like that are. It will make a great boat to go camping in, it should hold pleanty of gear.

Finally got my solo canoe wet!

It's not really a secret where the plans came from. I got them from Bateau.com, it is their Hiawatha design. Finally got my solo canoe wet!

Well, thats a long story that I will try to make short. No, the plans are not of my own design, I bought them from a web site (not JemWatercraft) and started the project. After I got the 2 chine panels fiberglassed to the bottom panel I stitched the top 2 side panels on and figured out it was...

Finally got my solo canoe wet!

This weekend provided me some extra time and I finally got my lightweight solo canoe wet. It is 12' x 29" and is made out of 5.2mm Lauan exterior underlayment plywood because real marine plywood is totally impossible to find out here in the desert. It weighs in just under 34lbs, so it will be...

Building a full sized Canadian canoe in 3 days

This is an interesting point. On my last canoe I put 3 coats of epoxy on and then 3 coats of oil based UV protectant varnish and I didn't seem to have a problem with getting it to stick. I would much rather work with a water based finish, but I was having difficulty finding something in water...

    The Larkspur "stretched"

WOW! Thats is a great looking canoe. You did a fantastic job on that thing. I read that it is 18' long, but what is the beam, height and rocker? What plans did you use? Did you scale it yourself to that length?
