    Floating .22

Sad news! When they were from Armalite (USAF MA1 survival rifle, AR7, etc) then Charter Arms ('Explorer' variants added), they were good. What kind of ammo were you running?

    Recent Pirogues

Grew up with Farmall's (still have Grand-Daddy's first - '39 A model), but always loved those old green "thumpers".

    Paddle QUESTION...

Pirogue on the Lay Away plan

For a good mix of the "cheaper" paints/finishes with outdoor exposure, use some inexpensive car wax, or a small tarp, and store the boat in a somewhat shaded (at least through the hottest parts of the day) area. Good exterior house paints hold up well in exposure.

    Bending Luan

I dry bend mostly, a little at time. Unless it's marine ply, wetting it wouldn't be the best. Now, I have taken a soaked towel to wet the "inside" and "outside" plies a tad to ease some stress if the fibres looked like they would "pull".

Looks like your stiffener runs along that line, which would put your weights to the side of centerline (no matter where placed) to...

Father & Son & "The Learning Curve"...

Well, put it in Poppa's pond Thursday! Karl is taking to the paddling very well...I just sat back while he went all over the pond. Had about a 5kt wind, so he got some good education on tracking and angling in all directions.

Test on stability of asymetrical hull

I can see a few minor problems with the test. 1. The model and weights are not representative of truly comparative bouyancy and loading. 2. Weight is not at fore/aft centerline, contributing to rolling moment. 3. No sides removes the corrective tendencies of those sides. What you'd need for a...
