    GATOR! Holy $#%?

I've seen some BIG 'gators while paddling in various parts of Florida, and even a few crocs' in the Everglades, but imagine coming across something like this...

Extended Trip on the Yabba (Piccie Intense)

Thanks for sharing the additional pics, Mick, they remind me that Oz is such an outstanding country, in so many different ways. You must have some really good karma to have found that camera: and it working order  I have an Olympus Stylus that has also been "down under" (pun intended) a...

Extended Trip on the Yabba (Piccie Intense)

G'day mate, After looking at the photos, Mick, I have come to the conclusion that you had a great catch despite not landing any fish :D Quality time spent at some picturesque locations. World class paddling. And "interaction" with a first rate paddling partner :) It doesn't get any better...

    Hontoon Island ,

I don’t know how I could have missed my invitation to go along on that trip? I know, for sure, that Mac would not have forgotten to send me one. Looks like a great location to just hang out for a few days, or longer. Must be why you guys (excuse me - ya’ll) keep it a secret from we Snowbirds...

    First Trip, First Fish

It's a proven fact, wood boats do attract attention, especially those well made like yours. Once you varnish the inside it will be a real "chick magnet"! But remain concentrated on fishing :) Nice job on the boat and the fish.

    Jitterbug Cruise 2011

No Jack, I never really spent any time on any of the Great Lakes. I play at the mouth of Lake Ontario, where it empties into the St. Lawrence River, each year while canoe sailing near Ganonaque. "Too much water and not enough time". But I'm trying!

    Jitterbug Cruise 2011

A 20' sharpie would be ideal for the entire west coast of Florida, especially if you include a small cabin. About 4-5 years ago I spent a month near the town of Suwannee, sailing a 19' Drascombe lugger, so I know how "skinny" that water can get. Chuck and Mac visited for a few days and I think...

    Jitterbug Cruise 2011

Mac could have easily navigated that route using his Buck Rogers pendant compass and map of North America; He was just too modest to demonstrate his skills :P

    Jitterbug Cruise 2011

Don't hesitate, go for it! As for navigation, all that's really needed is a map & compass, but the Garmin 540 sure comes in handy. Ask Chuck, Joe and Mac :)

    Jitterbug Cruise 2011

Jitterbug Cruise - 2011 Two years ago I enjoyed a 6 month cruise aboard my West Wight Potter-19, Jitterbug, beginning from my home in New Jersey, down the ICW to Ft. Lauderdale (2 months), out to the Bahamas (6 weeks) and then up the west coast of Florida to Ft. Myers where we crossed through...

    Last fishing and hunting trip

Great report, David, and the photos highlight the diversity of the terrain. A week of hunting/fishing/camping and visiting old mates is good even if you don't harvest as much fish & game as you would like. Gives you an excuse to return at some future date. Are YOU the one responsible for all of...

A lil trip on the Burrum (fresh section)

Great report, Mick, with some nice photos; brings back a few memories. You seem to be doing rather well for yourself, Mate - new truck and an even better looking paddling partner. I have been bouncing around the Gulf coast of Florida the past 3 months, and at one point spotted a salt water...

    Everglades , 10,000 Islands , Jan 2011

I just ended a 3 month cruising trip in the Florida Gulf waters. During the entire time it only rained twice; Jan 17th when Chuck arrived and Jan 21st when he left, with lots of heavy fog between those dates - not one drop of rain there-after! Coincidence???? That being said, perhaps he should...

    Everglades , 10,000 Islands , Jan 2011

Great job on the Trip Report, Chuck. I know you would have liked a few more photos, but...... Funny how those photos don't always show things the way they really are. With Mac holding his fish waaaay out front, it actually appears to be bigger than my enormous trout :) After leaving you guys...

    No Kayaks Today

Thanks for the report and pics. Always encouraging to read a (successful) fishing report :) I often use the backbones as a fish stock for soup/stew; boil until the meat flakes off, and the bones certainly add a distinctive flavor. You seem to have had that little river "honey hole" all to...

A short Skiff run on the Ocklawaha River.

Hairymick, I thought the 2 boats looked very similar. Perhaps my memory is not totally shot. I just checked my build and found the begger to be 5milimetres out of plumb on the bottom so had to cut out the transom and re-think some. mine is going to be 4 inches shorter now. We don’t worry...

A short Skiff run on the Ocklawaha River.

Sorry things didn’t work out according to plan, Chuck. But I wouldn’t go so far as to say the “the bear GOT you”…..more like a nip on your butt. After all, you got away from the house for a while; you had a learning experience with the skiff; spent a short spell on the river; and you got an...

    BWCA/Quetico

Hi Joe, you wrote That Peregrine canoe is the same one you had when we paddled the Withlacoochee, isn't it? I remember trying it for a few minutes one day with no other load in it and thinking "Man, this baby is TENDER", but it sure was fast. Yes, I think I did have the Perigrine on that trip...

    BWCA/Quetico

Chuck, You mention that Mac, or someone else, had to take some of the photos. That's a big drawback of paddling solo, one never gets to be included in pictures. The pic of me paddling was taken by 2 (cute) ladies I met at a portage. The one of me carrying the canoe was likewise taken at a...
