    New style hardtop

That's a Carolina Sportfisherman. Hatteras Yachts, Egg Harbor, and a lot of those other High End yachts like that have borrowed those lines from boats from the lower NC Outer Banks. We're kinda proud of 'em. Jarret Bay builds a good one, Parker Boat works (similar lines smaller hull) is here...

    Hey Y'all, and Suggestions?

Got my stem and frames cut, got most of the frames ready to glue up. Still have to make those gussets. Should I make em outta 1/4" Okume or 3/8" Arauco, or some clear pine? I also have the rub rails ripped down. I should probably go ahead and rip the main center skeg too. I don't think I'm...

    New style hardtop

Oyster, You done any trout fishing lately? Working on any good projects? This weather is enough to get a boy wanting to work out in the shop....

    Hey Y'all, and Suggestions?

I think Flint will be the best sailor of the three, hands down; she's long, narrow, high tucked up stern, and V bottomed. She should be quite fast. She also very, very closely resembles turn of the century work boats from this area, though they often were 18'-20' in length (6-7metres?). My...

    Hey Y'all, and Suggestions?

I stand corrected. They do make a 1/4" (they call it 6.5mm I think) Arauco plywood. I'm trying to get some. 1. I'm wondering what wood to go with for the framing. Thinking about #1 grade pine 1x4's. 2. I'm wondering what cloth for the sail (though I've got some time to work on this)...

    Deer hunting question

Remote controlled car dragging a helium balloon from the grocery store or florist..... .22lr. Buddy drives remote controlled car, you shoot. A lot of boys here in the Southeast (Texas-Virginia) like to deer hunt over hounds. It's not for everyone, but it was at one time the sport of kings...

    Deer hunting question

I like the 8 points, all straight down! That's cute, and it fits the way I feel to a 't'. I'm an officer on a hunting club (hunting lease from a timber company). The club voted to have antler restrictions. That means when meat hunting (which is most of what I tend to do) I have to be careful...

    Tipi

    1. Pine straw, left on the floor of the tent, catches fire, which causes the tent fabric to get warm and glow brightly! After this, the remaining poles, if any, are poor insulators! 2. Pine straw inside the tent (our home made, back yard tipis had no floors) attracts the swamp...

    Tipi

We used to make tipis in the back yard when we were kids. We used the ridge pole from a swing set, an antennae, a flounder gig, and a few long straight saplings for the poles. For the canvas, we used some of mom's old blankets and curtains. We usually built a fire in it to sleep at night...

Not sure about how all of you feel

Chuck, Ever thought about setting that hammock real low to the ground, then building an air dam of leaves around/under it? Might not hurt. Sleeping pad on it, like others suggested would help. A decent, mil-surp wool blanket, big one, going under, and over the sleeping bag would be a good...

    Deer hunting question

I hunt deer with everything from a .223 to a .30-06 and 7mm Rem Mag. Buckshot on occasion. My .243 and .308 are both favorites, due to their light, compact size. The .308 has most of the power of my -06, but is lighter and carries better. I can kill deer here with most any normal big game...

    New Boat Build

That is SWEET Beekeeper! It reminds me of the old 'gun punts' that were used to duck hunt with cannons. It looks like it would sail well too with the higher, tumblehome sides like that. Some of the Chesapeake Crab skiffs were built very much like that, maybe just a tad larger. I still think...

    Quick and Hearty Hunter's Breakfast

I've never had Kareem of Wheat. If it's anything like oatmeal, I'd probably love it. The slice almonds sounds like a really good suggestion. Anything that has apples, cinnamon and raisins would have to be really screwed up to be bad!

    Dehydrated Potato Soup Mix

That jest sounds good. You're making me wish we had a Costco. I don't think there's one for hundreds of miles from here, might be wrong. We do have Food Lion though, and they have some neat stuff. I bet that soup would be good with some canned chicken and bacon bits on a camp out. Maybe...

    Deer hunting question

You've finally gotten permission from the farmer down by the swamp to hunt. He's been seeing that buck almost every evening in the back field just about dusk. You've been scouting there. You've got a nice place to sit a shade over 100 yards downwind of where he crosses. Local regulations...

    Arauco Plywood?

I special ordered two sheets from a local lumber yard in 3/8". It has a reputation for minimal core voids. Rot resistance? Well, it's pine. Cared for, pine tends to last.... A local charter boat captain who duck hunts and does boat repair swears by it. He says he took some scraps at lunch...

    Quick and Hearty Hunter's Breakfast

This evolved for me this hunting season. It's quick, tasty, and leaves you warm and full for a long day out in the cold. Vary it as you like, and it could be good canoe/camping food too. Per person: 2 packs instant oatmeal (I like apple cinnamon or raisin spice) 1 4 oz cup of Motts or...

    Used Turkey

We always made fajitas from leftover turkey (whatever didn't make it into hunter's sandwiches). Turkey Fajitas: Few big handfulls of cooked turkey, cut into finger like pieces 2 bell peppers, sliced long and thin 1 large onion (vidallea) slided long and thin pack of taco seasoning amount of...

    Muzzle loaders

Last count I had about 6 smoke poles in the house. .45 long hunters, .50 hawkens, 12 gauge dubbil burril, and my favorite: an inline. It's the T/C Scout. I think it was T/C's first inline. It looks and handles like a big .30-30 (okay, maybe Marlin 1895 .45-70). She's reasonably accurate...

    fishing and hunting expedition

Judging from the pics, I'd fit right in down your way. Hunting and fishing in the same day is just good stuff. My son took his first deer this season with a .223, 55 grain softpoint, double lung. The blood trail was poor at best, but the deer didn't run any farther than it would have with a...
