While waiting on the scales to my Daughters knife to set I started working on another.

Roughed it out with a grinder and a cut off wheel.

A while back I saw a burl on a mesquite tree at the lease and cut it off. It's been stored out in the shop for a while now and today I decided to cut into it to see what it looked like.

I think I am going to use this to scale the new knife.

This burl is probably big enough for 20-30 sets of scales.

I was wondering when one of you was going to make some mesquite scales. It looks good and is wonderful to work with. If there is a crack or void in the wood go ahead and use it. Mix black dye into epoxy and fill the blimish, let it cure, sand smoth and polish. Looks great. Nice burl you have there. That will be one good looking knife.
