Friend oldyaker,

Dont git Tom 'n me started on tv. Why jest last nite I wuz lookin' down wishin' they wuz some number I could push, roman 'er confederate, that would bring up a really good movie.....like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Lonesome Dove, Bronco Billy, Apocalypse Now (even if Lance sez it aint nuthin' like the war), Dr. Strangelove, et cetra.

Once upon a time they wuz jest a cowboy channel....least that wuz all I could tell when my Dad brung home a black 'n white set in the 50's. Then fer a long time they wuz only 3 networks. They got sick jest like rock 'n roll did before the Beatles, so all these cable channels popped up wid purty good shows.

The big fellas figgered it out purty quick 'n they are buyin' up all the cable channels. [Walt Disney bout the most subversive influence ever.] Jest like Ole Deep Throat sez "follow the money" if ya want ta git ta the problem. Miz Bear sez its so bad ta make ya buy a satellite. I aint gwine ta do it cuz I aint ready for a hunderd stations showing the same dang movies. Besides, satellite likely got worse programs than MTV! 8)

Jest when I wuz wishin' I had some medication ta git back on, I checked on pbs 'n lo 'n behold they had anuther river show bout The Singing River. Ole Gerald McRaney narrated purty good. Real name is the Pascagoula River.

In one spot they showed four folks in canoes. Ever danged one wuz made outta wood! I aint never give no thought ta a wood boat til I run up on ya'll. None a the women wuz lookers like the ones Andy paddles wid, but the boats wuz fine lookin'.

It got me ta thinkin' bout the rivers in my own backyard. Sho they all flat, but I'm gittin' a bit flat myownself. Kayak Jack done hiz part in tole all bout the Au Sable....'n some pichurs. I reckon we need some good reports (not jest the stuff in the canoe books) on everthin' in our areas in case ya'll want ta git up some more expedishuns.

One of the creeks that feeds the Pascagoula iz called Black Creek. Tannic acid makes it look like tea, but clear. It went Natl Scenic too, like the Buffalo, but I never seen a Class I rapid on it. It wuz my first river paddlin' that I recall. My flyfisin' buddy Chris (guy who had that danged Triumph Misfire) lives on the upper part 'n paddles it all the time.

On top a that I seen a pbs show on some fella frum Clarksdale who has a Mississippi River tour where folks paddle in these giant injun style canoes. I reckon that iz quite a treat fer folks who aint growed up on it/in it like me....'n I still find it a treat.

I reckon that's what "Trip Reports" iz fer?

I sho wish I wuz washin' aphid drip off my OCA 'n cookin' some bacon fer the St. Mary's.
