I know that this is a bit off the boat building topic, but I was repairing a chopped fiberglass barrel type duck blind yesterday and have some questions.
I used a MarPro epoxy resin from Donovan Marine, mixed it according to instuctions and 24+ hrs later it is dry but has an oily residue. Is this normal? Should I wipe it down with Acetone? If the choppergunned fiberglass blind resin was poly resin, would that cause my oily problem? I want to put another layer of epoxy resin over it, do I sand it first? Lastely, is my whole project FUBAR?

Thanks

Try scrubbing with a Scotch-brite or similar plastic pad and water. If the repair is not soft, it is probably just the amimine blush. This is just a waxy substance that sometimes forms over cured epoxy. It should be removed before re-coating or painting; otherwise the next coat may not bond..
