G'day guys,

Robin and I put in yesterday at Burrum Heads for a leasurely stoll up our river with the tide. We haven't done this stretch of river in about a year and it was real nice to be on it again.

Here is the little park wherewe put in.

Paddled upstream, past a heap of moored boats. This one is a classic old Aussie flatty. We don't seen them much anymore. I leant to row in a boat very similar.

The plan was to paddle upstream with the tide and wind about 4 1/2 miles to another little town called Buxton, have lunch in the park there and return with the falling tide.

There are little side channels along the way that run between mangrove islands and the shore and are allways good value

Continueing right along.

Did lunch in the park at Buxton and sat in the shade while waiting for the tide to turn. The tide was well in by the time we got there so had to pull out at the local boat ramp.

We found a local "Weather Rock" :D

With the changing of the tide, the E/SE wind had freshened to about 20 knots so we had a pretty solid punch into it heading home. A quick dash across the river to the sheltered eastern bank and we hugged it as much as we could.

and as we rounded the bend in the river to where it vaced east, we picked our way through the many little islands out of the worst of the wind.

To do this, involved several hard stretches across the exposed channels with wind against the tide and standing chops to about 14 or 15 inches. We both got very wet in these stages from wind driven spray and the odd steep one splashing us.

One last slog, from the islands back to our sheltered little channel.
The piccie doesn't do justice to just how choppy it was here.

Safely back in our little channel and Robin, stretching after the last punch. :D

Back to our put in, load up and a walk through the park to a cafe and some lovely macadamea icecream :D :D

Another great day on the water. My Laker handled the conditions beautifully. About as well as Robins sea kayak. While I took some water into the cockpit, I reckon almost any boat would have in the conditions. I took no more water than Robin did and her boat is about two feet longer than mine, was carrying much less weight and is a true sea kayak.

Every time I use this boat, I like it more than I did the last time.

Mick, next time read the tide table for yourself and don't call Chuck. He holds the damned things upside down when he reads them and gets it wrong. Though, maybe, come to think of it - is it possible? - was he calculating Aussie tides? Could it be??

Mick what kind of yaks are you paddling in photo

I was surprise too on how little water the Laker catches and how well it handled the wind and chop I got into. You told me I would love her and I do.
