Navy Chief Saves The Life of an Marine Officer During Horse-Back Riding
Mishap

San Diego, CA., May 17, 2007

Yet another unselfish act of heroism performed by a man wearing Navy blue:

A Marine Captain narrowly escaped serious injury recently when he
decided to try horseback riding, even though he had no lessons or prior
experience. He mounted the horse, unassisted, and the horse immediately sprang into action.
As it galloped along at a steady and rhythmic pace, the Captain began to slip from the saddle.
In terror, he grabbed for the horse's mane, but could not get a firm grip.
He tried to throw his arms around the horse's neck, but he began to slide down the side of the horse anyway!

The horse galloped along, seemingly impervious to its slipping rider.
Finally, losing his frail grip, the Captain attempted to leap away from
the horse and throw himself to safety. Unfortunately, his foot became
entangled in the stirrup, and he was now at the mercy of the horse's
pounding hooves as his head struck against the ground over and over and
over.

As his head was being battered against the ground and he was mere
moments away from unconsciousness, to his great fortune a Navy Chief
Petty Officer shopping at Wal-Mart saw him and quickly unplugged the
horse!

At our Masonic Lodge here in Okemos, we have many veterans. A couple of them are Marines. When we have a function, we'll announce the time like this:

"It is at 19:00 hours. For any civilians in the group, that is 7:00 pm. For Marines, it's when Mickey's right hand is on twelve (12), and his left had is on seven (7)."

(Actually, we all get along very well.)

I was a Navy corpsman with the Marines during that south east Asia ( vacation ) time period ( The 60's) in our history.
I have to admit I have never meet a nicer group of folks and was proud to wear there uniform.
They sure took good care of Doc and that was a full time job for them.

I have buddies from all the services, including Marines and Coast Guardsmen. One Navy vet used to run mini subs that went thousands of feet down. Another used to repair PT boats. An Army vet here was a medic on D Day.

Joined the Navy to be on ships and around water .... ended up with a Marine air wing , some choice duty but very little water and no ships.
Never know what will turn up on here , all of us have had colorful past experiences , the ones that I look forward to are those yet to come. :D

The past is done and gone , the future is what counts which makes me think of this. Now I will drive Jack nuts with some southernpaddler thinking.

Today is now and tomorrow will become today , then today will be yesterday , you will never reach tomorrow , it is the one day you never get to.

Chuck.
PS. That is why I tell the wife ... I will do that tomorrow.

Only thing we need to know, Chuckie, is WHICH way will the tide be going tomorrow?

Around here the TIDE goes down the drain with the rest of the dirty water from the clothes washer. That usually happens before the rinse cycle. So it is safe to say that the tide is high at the start and then low and gone at the finishing cycle (spin and rinse).

No need for a stinking chart to figure that out , just pop the lid and see which cycle the washer is in. 8)

We check the weather the same way , walk out side and if you get wet then it is raining , providing you did not take a wrong turn and step in the shower.( Indoor plumbing , what will they think of next)

WEATHER ROCK

Tie a rock with a cord; hang it from a pole or tree branch. Observe the rock.

If the rock is wet................It’s raining
If the rock is swinging.........It’s windy
If the rock is hot.................It’s sunny
If the rock is cool................It’s cloudy
If the rock is white..............It’s snowing
If the rock is blue...............It’s cold
If you can’t see the rock.....It’s foggy
If the rock is gone..............TORNADOOOooo

TIDE CRACKER

Tie a Florida cracker to a stout line. Hang on to one end of the line. Throw the cracker into the water.

If he floats away from you................tide is going out.
If he floats back towards you............tide is coming in.
If he sinks........................................go home and have a beer.
