I built a 15'3" pirogue recently and cut out a 6" swag out of the bottom, it left me with about 2" rake in bow and stern.

If I shorten my next pirogue to 12-13 feet and cut out a 6" swag from the sides like my previous pirogue would the rake be the same? Does length affect rake being all other things are equal(bottom witdth, gunwale width, side height, side shape, and flare)?

Thanks,

Bill

if your side flare is around 35 degrees, reduce the swag about 1 1/2" to maintain rocker

if your side flare is around 25 degrees, reduce the swag by about 1/2"

keep in mind that this is only a guideline and rocker can be changed lots of other factors like bottom width, side flare, amount of cut back on the sides, how much you spread the tops of the sides with the breast hook, etc.

if you're building one off and are absolutely commited to having a 2" rocker, the build like beekeeper and others build by setting the rocker with the bottom panel and cutting the swag from the side panel to match the bottom
