As a young boy, William Deckler, grew up in Indianapolis and was an enterprising youth. Always looking for ways to improve his financial standing, young William had an idea that became world known.

During the week of the Indy 500, William would sell lockets for the race that year. Over time these lockets became more and more popular. So popular that supply couldn’t keep up with demand. Poor William could only allow each person to purchase two lockets. Basically William Deckler's pendants had to be rationed out.
