    Pedal Paddling?

That boat in the original video looks like it is pretty close to planing. Definitely a guy in good shape and I doubt he could keep up that pace for long, whatever speed he was at. IMO he :could: be exceeding the normal max hull speed that we are all stuck with though, which is usually 4-5 mph...

    Anyone built an 18' pirogue?

Thanks for all of the replies, I'm glad to see this place is still active! I understand about the flare and secondary stability, and can definitely feel the close to 30 degree flare on my 14' boat, however I think I relied too much on that alone with a 25" bottom. The boat will not flip, and...

    Anyone built an 18' pirogue?

Thanks for the input so far. I'm pretty set on the 36" width as that is the major design factor for stability. Dogs walking around in the boat, hauling a lot of gear, being able to stand and cast, etc. I've got a 14'x32" Jon boat and it is not quite where I want it to be. The length is really a...

    Anyone built an 18' pirogue?

I've built 14' and 16' pirogues, I'm considering going for a "big one", at 18'. The primary reason for it is to go really wide in the middle for stability, about 36" across the bottom. If I go that wide and stretch it out to 18', it should keep a decent amount of glide rather than turning into...

    Pirogue outrigger design?

Well I got the outrigger done, the paint still need to cure before I get it on the water. I ended up mounting it 1 3/4" higher than the bottom of the pirogue, and it has 4" of rocker in less than 7'. I'm hoping that will be enough to keep the outrigger stems out of the water and not affect...

    Pirogue outrigger design?

Beekeeper, thanks for the reply. The pirogue is my design, though I do have a set of the gator boats plans. It was based mostly on what I read on here and wanting a 25" wide bottom, lots of flair, 2" of rocker, and being very lightweight to carry down steep banks by myself. You're right about...

    Pirogue outrigger design?

Hi guys, I'm new here but have been reading for awhile and built a couple of pirogues. Mine is 14' long with a 35" beam, 25" bottom and 30 degree sides. It's perfect for hunting in swamps and I can stand in it pretty well, but it does move around a lot. I've started getting into fly fishing...
