Honest[as you can get] opinions on tents

Tents I like Eureka tents. Advanced features at reasonable prices. I currently use a Eureka Timberlite., about 4 lbs with a sloping ridge. Full rainfly, self standing but has 2 pull outs on each side.

    Evolution of a Canoe Sailor

A nice read is "A Speck on the Sea : Epic Voyages in the Most Improbable Vessels " by William Longyard. He details long sea crossings made in small craft. Of course, Slocum has a chapter. I like 4 sided sails, and the balanced lug in particular. It just seems to work out best for a canoe...

    Evolution of a Canoe Sailor

Yeah, well the tan clothes have become sort of "the uniform" for canoeing and other outdoor pursuits. I have read bright colors, especially blue, can draw mosquitoes. I tried to buy a white Mohawk solo 14 last time but they had quit making them. Only red and green.

    Evolution of a Canoe Sailor

I got the bug too Like the OP I have been canoe sailing for 5-6 years. Unlike him, my efforts have all been toward cruising and wilderness travel, not racing. I like gunkholing, exploring, and camping out of my canoe. My first "rig" was a couple of beaver sticks lashed in a "V" to which I...

Thx Hmick, I figure it's much cheaper to make mistakes on paper before the project goes 3D.

    plans modification

ch-ch-ch changes My apologies to Bowie. I am currently in the process of modifying a canoe. The original has no directional stability without a rudder. Two strokes on one side and you are headed off on a tangent. This is strange as the boat in question is known as an expedition tripper...

    JEM Sail canoe DONE

Just a little update. I have had her out a few more times and so far she is just what I wanted in a sailing canoe. A couple of weeks ago we were sailing in Force 3 winds, gusting to F4 and she was still rock solid. Even with 40 sq ft full sail she wasn't the least bit "twitchy" and heeled over...

    Suwannee River Trip

you rSaturday camp hunt story reminds me of a canoeing proverb I learned from Kevin Callan, "never pass a great campsite at 3pm in hope of finding a better one at 6." Odds are it ain't gonna happen! Nice trip thx for the report.

Philip Greene and his canoes & paddles

Woodsong? Is this Phillip Green of Woodsong Canoes? When I first found his website several years ago I was amazed at the level of craftmanship. His canoe are simply works of art. It is good to see a fellow doing what he loves and getting PAID for it. AT those prices a Woodsong canoe OR...

    JEM Sail canoe DONE

That sail is made of white poly tarp. It is 2 years old and I have been using it on my open canoe sail rigs. I am planning on making a new sail soon. 50 sq ft, balancedlug. Either tyvek or white poly. Actually the wind was marginal. Force 2 with gusts to force 3 at times.

    JEM Sail canoe DONE

Well, mostly. I'm now working on a lightweight leeboard bracket. Had her out for sea trials a couple of weeks ago. Handles nicely, tacks upwind well sails close and is rock solid, not "twitchy" like my regular open sail canoes. starboard port on the water.
