    Q re Pirogue Sides

With all that has been said on the matter I might add something. I did the reverse chine on my first boat but did not like the amount of rocker it put in the boat. On the second boat I followed the LSU plans whereby the bottom chine is cut out by 2'' or something. If you use cedar fence pickets...

    Push Pole?

Great, great stories. I have not been to Rose Marina yet but I can see where the snook would pile in like cordwood. My grandfather used to tell me how he and my great uncle,in their youth,in early 1900's, would row out to the barrier islands out from Savannah. He said they made friends with the...

    Push Pole?

Incredible tales, I was over at Goodland a couple of weeks ago but didn't put the gheenoe because of the 25 knot winds though I would have put the kayak in those conditions. I was shore fishing right on the rubble of the old wooden bridge you must be referring to. They have a nice two lane...

    Push Pole?

I thought about the bamboo route also. I have read some people use, don't hold me to this, a guyana tree fork for the foot. I may make two just to play around with it. Chuck,I loving hearing stories like yours. My Grandfather used tell me tales like yours about area around Savannah. In my...

    Push Pole?

Chuck, I can imagine the car topping a Gheenoe would get rather old. Mine is a 13'er. 110lbs is a lot to put overhead. I trailer it. What convinced me to get one was after a long day of kayak fishing around the Caxambas Pass, a fella in Gheenoe motored by, pulled up to the same sandbar we had...

    Push Pole?

I recently purchased a Gheenoe; Don't throw me out of the club yet. I still prefer a single paddle craft but needed something with an outboard and the ability to keep the admiral with me when fishing SWFL. However in our ventures I realized the need for a push pole. I have searched the web...

    UJ's SKIFF rowability?

Thanks Chuck for the link. I think I have slowly been leaning towards a skiff for some time now. I will order some plans today or tomorrow. The guys up at the the Wooden Boat center on Lake Union, Seattle, Washington were impressed with pirogues. I guess they really don't make anything like...

    UJ's SKIFF rowability?

I had the pleasure of rowing a skiff around on Lake Union, WA. last week. This experience has lead me to consider building one as primarily as a rowing skiff and as a sculler. I was wondering if anybody had any thoughts on the Bayou Skiff rowability or say the Whisp by Redmond? Since I sold my...

    Work Shop Ideas

Thanks Joey, The curved roof had caused me some concern about working with the sides. The longest boat I envision building is probably 16' so 24' in length should serve well for now. If my lot was bigger I would put up something much larger but there are always design parameters.

    Work Shop Ideas

I have looked at the big store offerings, internet, etc. The bow shed plan by Stimson Marine is basically a Gothic Arch Greenhouse. It appears to be simple, quick, and cheaper than some of the alternatives but that is just my initial impression. I was really wanting to know what you fellas...

    Work Shop Ideas

I was thinking of building bow roof shed 14' x 24' on a wooden pier platform base and covering with corrugated roofing material. The carport is becoming too crowded, too cold or hot, and too many mosquitoes. Besides the wife has some remodeling ideas  I just wondering if anyone had...

    Another Pirogue

Nice boat. The buff collar and gloves are a must when I fish the Naples - Marco area for the bugs. I mostly get by with a broad brim hat, long sleeves, and pants for sun exposure as long as there is a good wind. You may want a chair with a back to make it a little more comfortable. I hate to say...
