I gave up on Sears last year after buying several different wood working for my shop. One item was a wet / dry vac . Had it a total of one week. Bought it all on my debit card. Lost the receipt somewhere in the process since I paid for it all online while I was offshore and picked up on my way...
Been wanting to build a pirogue but this is the closest I've gotten so far. lol . Out here on this platform, the only wood I can scrap up is pallet material and broom handles. I whittled out a canoe from a broom handle and a flatbottom boat from a piece of pallet wood. Made two small paddles for...
Good looking leather work. I make mine out of paracord with three drops per side. Been wanting to try some leather work, just haven't gotten around to it yet.
I made my pushpole out of big bamboo. Used a small propane torch to fast dry it and applied several coats of boiled linseed oil. Made a foot out of a forked cypress branch shaved down to fit inside bamboo foot. Drilled holes and whittled down wooden pins to hold in place. Used paracord to wrap...
I used some transfer paper my wife picked up at hobby lobby for me. I just print out a what I want, put the transfer paper down between the picture and the wood and trace over it with a stylus pen used with that type of paper.
Thanks on the varnish. Doing some research now to find what a good...
Made a fishing trip this morning. I was foggy and humid. Caught these two. One on a fluke and the other dragging a worm on bottom around cypress trees. Lake is way down right now and I'm an addict to driftwood. So I loaded the boat up with driftwood and one cypress that has been under the water...
Been busy since I been home. Been off for 10 days now and getting ready to head back to work for 14 days. Heres some paddles and burns I've made since I've been home. The small paddle is made out of some pine I had laying around. The other three are all cypress one piece paddles. Had problems...
Basically it all equates to working half the year. Throw in some training here and there on my off days. But its normally 14 on and 14 off. But it sucks to miss holidays and family events when they fall on my days working. Got 18 yrs out here so I'm stuck here now. :D
Where do ya'll get wood from used to make your paddles ? I'm wanting to make a kayak paddle from cypress and do some art on it. I'm not wanting to buy a whole trailer full just looking for a few boards. Thanks
No sir, don't know many people around here. I live about 10 miles from Turkey Creek. My wife transplanted me here 15 yrs ago but I mostly stay quiet and to myself. I enjoy the company of my dog and quietness of the woods. :D
I fish Chicot probably 12 of the 14 days I'm home. Its a tough lake to...
I do plan on building a pirogue one day. I have my flatbottom boat I use for hunting and fishing and my 16ft canoe. I've never been much of a carpenter so I'm taking baby steps at this woodworking stuff. I really enjoyed making the paddle.
