    Cool Canoe---The Movie

I like your outriggers, most of the outriggers i have seen so far have bends in them to get them to be on the surface, but your's are straight---do they work the same? it seems like it would be a lot easier to make the straight ones.

    Best wood for a Stripper?

i'd agree w/ Mick, as that's what i have done thus far.....and would recommend staying as simple as possible. the weight differences are sizable once you start using a lot of hardwoods.. and when working w/ different wood types when sanding, planing---they all have different characteristics...

    Partial Deck for canoe

kjack & chuck excellent advice, thank you. i really like the leeboard rig--just the ticket for me--that way it will be movable, for comfort and for when the wife paddles it, and it will be a start on my next project---sailing the canoe. chuck--that is soooo unselfish, to put plans up for...

    Partial Deck for canoe

Here's another pondering question for you-all. After paddling a kayak for several years, i really enjoy having thigh and knee braces to handle a craft. now with my canoe(double paddle, sit on bottom)--i have the boat done up to putting in bulkheads and bow/stern decks---i went out and paddled...

    Beckson plate install

you were right Matt. he used screws in addition to epoxy. He used a Beckson deckplate in each of the bulkheads. Instead of mounting the flange on the outside of the bulkhead, he glued-epoxied/screwed it on the back of the bulkhead and glued-epoxied/screwed the cutout(from the opening cut for...

    Beckson plate install

i'll try and describe it a little better. after seeing a few pics of such a mount i wanted to do the same thing and ordered the access plates and, to put the cart before the horse, now i have to figure out how to mount the plates. I am building a canoe--- a lot like the piroques. i wanted to...

    Beckson plate install

I'd like to install a Beckson screw-in access plate to a wood bulkhead in my boat and not have the plastic show---the bulkhead is 1/8" luan plywood and has 1/4" strips on top of it. But how do i mount the plate to the back of the plywood? Can i just use epoxy--will that be strong enuf? I don't...

    installing thwart

I am ready to install a thwart on my solo double-paddle canoe. i just glued on the scuppered inwalks and now i learn that many people mortice/tendon a thwart into the inwale. my inwales are thin, 3/8"(the scuppers are 1/4") , and only 5/8" high.....would the thing be by running one or two...

    Glass time, outgassing

Question for you-all. I've glassed the outside of my canoe and seal-coated the inside. Now do i still have to time the inside glassing so the temperature is dropping(which means for me to be later evening, or can i glass during the morning/afternoon and not be concerned of the temperatures? i...

    creases in cloth

thanks-all I appreciate all the help ! I did call Raka and they, as foretold here, said they send cloth folded to save the customer money in shipping. No reason given for shipping all of my previous orders, of the same amounts, "rolled". They wouldn't pay, for shipping, to send me some more...

    creases in cloth

Grrrrr ! I had everything set to glass(my canoe) tonight, had the garage ready---i had ordered 4 oz glass from a company that i had ordered from before, and it came just in time today, but......they had not sent the glass "rolled", it was folded up in a 1' size baggie(and squished in a box) and...

    kitchen flour = silica ?

question for you-all, i'm out of silica to thicken the epoxy for filling cracks on my canoe(just done stripping), i read that common flour(kitchen type) can be used instead of collodial silica for a thixotropic agent. anyone else try this? I'm filling cracks in white cedar so it will be a...

    Using glass scraps

is there a noticeable loss of strength, or other problems that are lurking unseen, if i would use large-leftover scraps of glass on my boat instead of buying a whole piece?
