Great tale, Bear
Bear:
Glad you made it home safe, almost hate cancelling now what a tale to tell. I believe this is probably the first trip I canceled due to forecasted weather but maybe it was a good call. Braxton and I paddled on the Chattoga River this past Wednesday and Thursday. Not as...
Glue
Thanks for the suggestions. Will give it a test try tomorrow. Only gluing two d rings on and tried PVC cement but that didn't seem to work... Like I always say, "ask the experts"
Can someone recommend a glue that should be carried by local merchants for gluing vinyl attach points to a Royalex canoe. If I have too I will order but the extra charge for shipping is pretty steep.
Thanks
Stand up paddle
funbun:
Check in this topic under my old post "more paddles" that will give you an idea of the length. I do use it to push when the water levels are extremely low around here. I also built a 10 foot pole with a sort of slender blade on it but looks like I need to do some more...
Simple rig
I just put the flyrod in the boat and make sure I have the Dog to get under foot (and wrapped up in the line) and away I go. I don't plan on catching anything, that way my hands won't smell all fishy and all. When I do catch, I let the dog lick it awhile and then turn it loose...
Drawing of Bent Shaft Jig

This is the Jig dimensions
Drawing of Bent Shaft Jig
Of course you can remove the triangle piece and build just a normal bent shaft paddle or you can move it (just screwed on) to make the center section longer or shorter. As I said, I modeled this off...

Mick:
I like to "Anchor" the blade and the grip by gluing pieces into the shaft laminations and then adding more area to those Anchors. Not sure is that's clear but maybe these will help

All paddles holding up for now
I have made lots this past year and so far they are holding up well. I used gorilla glue on the first double bent shaft paddle and used too much pressure with the clamps. After several paddles I had a slight seperation of lamination on the shaft but I reapplied...
My bent shaft form
Mick:
Not sure if this is up to your standards but this is what I use for a double bent shaft . If you just want a standard bent blade then you just unscrew the one angle (I'm sure you could figure that out)
Just a 2 by 8 cut at the angle...
On a whim I set out for the Ebeneezer today and arrived at Long
Bridge Landing about 2:30 pm. I was planning on taking it easy and
maybe even wetting a hook but when I saw the water was up I had to
try for Old Ebeneezer Site. I was greatly surprised by how open the
channel was as I paddled...
Stand up paddle
I made a stand up 6 foot 6 inch paddle but haven't made any sculling oars. Not sure what type blade shape you would us for that. Sorry!
spagetti for two
I always make the whole box that way we can eat it the rest of the week..... seriously I always cook way too much but usually cook about a third of the box, depends on appetites.
Sorry to jump in before Oldyaker...
Friday Westbury and I headed down to O'leano State Park just outside
of High Springs, Florida. We had the canoe and camping gear loaded
and looked foward to a weekend of paddling and relaxing with our good
friends. Our group has a habit of late starts and doing more relaxing
than paddling...
I run the Ebenezer whenever the Ogeechee gets above a few feet. If you ever want to come down, let me know and I'll see what I can do to meet up. Winter and Spring is best as the water there gets quite low also and it gets clogged with weeds.
I will try and remember next time to take pics and...
Jimmy:
If the group accepts me then we will paddle the tunnel section. It will be my first time on the Etowah and I have limited experience on whitewater. I was told it is mild class 2 so should be all right but something about running through total darkness excites and scares me at the same...
