    Rattlsnakes

Mouse, it very closely resembles the snake I am talking about, but the ones around here are mostly green. Climbing is something they do well. I think they can climb a blackboard! ( I have to rescue my neighbor periodically, because the snakes climb into the rafters of his barn. And he is...

    Rattlsnakes

Not long after Lil Darlin' and I married, I was working in one of my gardens, and Lil Darlin' came around the corner of the garage, and had the strangest look on her face. She looked like she was yelling, but I could barely hear her- "Jim, Jim, Jim, Jim". I knew something was wrong. I dropped...

    Rattlsnakes

In the mid seventies, I was sort of leading a small group( a friend, his two sons, and my oldest son) on a fairly strenuous day hike through the Wichita Mountains, in SW Oklahoma. Late in the morning, we had crossed over a saddle, and there was a small park between the saddle, two small...

    That's when the trouble began.

You know, I just don't deal well with questions, when they are re-phased and asked again. and re-phrased and asked again. Lil darlin' asked me today about my will. I admit I do need to update my will, but it kind of bugs me to talk about it. Things get more tense after several adult beverages...

Stripped Freedom ( Boat got Slimed)

Titebond III is much, much "Mo' Betta". Nice long open time, decent grab, waterproof, heat resistant, freeze resistant and easy clean up. For most purposes, the ideal glue. The only glue I use more of is polyurethane. It has it's own set of problems, like appearance, squeeze out, and clean up.

Stripped Freedom ( Boat got Slimed)

It's probably a moot point, if you cover the craft with glass, but Titebond II isn't certified for use beneath the water line. Also, joints made up with Titebond II had been known to fail completely in below freezing conditions. I am guessing that the adhesive is just to hold everything true...

    the ultimate striker clip.

Mike, I can appreciate your curiosity. Actually I, also, would like to have a picture of the event. But it happened nearly forty years ago. Just the thought of hanging by my belt, hurts nowadays.

    the ultimate striker clip.

I was welding steel/concrete docks on Grand Lake. As you may know, the ultimate striker holder is a brazing rod, bent into a sort of safety pin shape, and hooked on to a belt loop. And I had such holder. However, building boat docks usually involves walking through a lot of brush, and my...

Kayak Jack is offline for a bit

I have been watching President Obama's inauguration festivities off and on all day long. I saw Jack on TV! No, wait, false alarm. That was the Washington memorial. Granite, Jack, hard to tell. About the same age.

    Baling wire??

Baling wire even make a fair to middling filler rod for gas welding, but it sho' takes a lot of it! (But I wouldn't do anything structural with it.) Darrell, you left out the third member of the southern/country repair kit! WD-40!

    They walk among us!

This is an email sent to the p.e.t.a.(People Eating Tasty Animals) web site. I got a kick out of it. I wonder where in the world this guy has observed this particular method of hunting? It sounds like a lot of fun, but counter productive for putting meat on the table. I will say this for old...

    Baling wire??

I really like this tool! I use about 1000 feet of soaker hose in my gardens, and there is always a geyser occuring somewhere. The only way to fix them is to cut them out and wire the hose to a section of plastic pipe inserted inside the cut ends. I've been using linemans pliers, and it's a fine...

    Sea kitten chowder.

In a heavy three quart pot, at medium low heat, try out about two ounces of salt pork, diced about a quarter inch. (Remove the rind) When the salt pork is translucent, pitch in a good sized, diced yellow onion. Stir gently for a few minutes, and add a pound of Yukon gold, or Pontiac potatoes...

    Butter or Margarine?

Bob, I, myself, am beginning to question the warnings against the use of lard as well. Anyone that has cooked any length of time, knows that lard is superior to any other fat for pastry. (Although bear grease is also very good). My grandfather ate lard at every meal. Lard was the fat of...

    Butter or Margarine?

In my very early years we used butter. We ate what came off the farm. When I was around ten, some infuencial IDIOT convinced the entire United States, that butter was unhealthy. For the next fifteen years I ate margarine, but longing for the good taste of butter. Finally my taste buds...

    Used Plywood.

Straight cuts on thin splintery wood can be accomplished by using a quarter inch straight edge tacked to the work piece, and using a router with a top bearing flush cut bit. Curved cuts can be made using this basic method, but it's more involved. Rip , from clear wood, 1/4X3/8 inch strips...

    Clams?

I'm not sure Mick. Email me a bushel or so of them. I shall test them in my laboratory. I will test them in the classic manner. Steaming them with several beakers of dry white wine, several beakers of chicken reduction, and lots of garlic and butter. I will clean up the lab with some nice crusty...

    Some classic Aussie Barra.

Mick, you are a cruel, evil and hard hearted blackguard! You should be ashamed for showing pictures of my bait on the internet! Now how will I keep my edge whilst catching the big ones around here, now that you have given away my secret? :D Those ae some beautiful fish! How much does...
