I knew the plans for Robb Whites boat were about like his old self . May he rest in peace. Fine boat builder, even better story teller. :-)Wes is doing a fine job of filling in the blanks but Robb is sorely missed. Not only for his boats. But for his stories as well. I am not at the level of...
Yeah Kurt, I have drooled over the Robb White sport boat for a long while. I am just a bit intimidated by the strip build process though.Plus it is probably just a bit small for my intended uses.
Have you seen these pictures of that boat? From wooden boat forum...
LOL, chuck, yeah, OK :D I will be able to cover allot of WATER, or distance over said water :-)
Yes Jack, Definately will go on a trailer. Looking at a weight of about 150# for the boat. Could be cartopped in a pinch but it will live on a trailer for sure.
Thats the plan Matt, I have a old 10 hp evinrude sportwin that runs like a top that will go on her. Should be able to run all day long on 4 or 5 gallons of fuel. Cover allot of ground down in the 10K islands :P
( Chuck stepping in here ......SERIOUSLY...
I think you will find that the boat...
Thanks again guys,
It looks what is going to happen is that Morten of DK boat plans is custom designing me a set of plans very close to the dk dingy 15, except it will be 18'X4'10" beam. VERY close to the laker but stitch and glue. I can highly recomend Morten for working up a set of plans. He...
LOL, yeah Chuck, Another case of just having the 25 hp laying around and figured, why not! Stick steering while sitting on the middle seat was like riding a motorcycle up and down the river... I got smart and sold it before I killed myself.
Matt, I just fire off an email to Morten...
Thanks Guys,
The DK 15 is sure a pretty little hull for sure. I have scratched the swift canoe off the list and replaced it wth the dk15. The DK that is on Mortens site was built just around the corner from me in Bonita Springs. I may try to look the guy up and go over and take a look if he...
Mick, You and I would agree on allot of things I do believe. The lutra is a damn fine looking boat. Hadn't thought of asking Dave to run up plans for stitch and glue! The glued lap isn't that hard a deal. Just not as quick and just a bit of planing on the ends and such. I somehow missed Matt's...
Ok folks, I have been waflfing back and forth now for several months on which boat for this winters build. I relize this is stretching the bounds of southern paddler but I am contemplating a POWER BOAT!!!!
On my trip to Maine this summer I ran across what is known as a "guide canoe" 16-20 feet...
Girlfriend woke me up to come out and watch the eclipse ( it was 5 am here)and I am glad I did. Very very nice. Thought about going in and getting the camera but instead, just sat outside and watched it.
I got a few up on the silver river last year. This little guy was camera shy and would turn his whole body around when I pointed the camera at him.
I got one good one out of prolly 20
I used the blue painters tape to keep the fillets under control ( somewhat) and reduce sanding later. Go thru a bunch of tape but its cheaper than sandpaper! :-)
Not sure how I missed this when you posted it PP, Nice report and pictures! Makes me want to go right back up there! We hiked into Allagash falls on our last day there and swam and sat for about 3 hours... Very very nice
Like Tex RR said. Cable ties then go back and fill in the holes with wood flour/epoxy mix. I have never tried the copper wire but can imagine all the twisting getting old pretty quick.
For my last two builds I have used a piece of 1/2" cheap ply cut down the center and butted together on the ends to give me a two foot wide by sixteen foot long work table. I added some 2X4 lumber on the undersides to kinda stiffen things up a bit and put it all up on cinder blocks, 3 high. A...
John, To answer your question, My terminology may be off but I refer to a slough as a slow moving, sometimes boggy, sometimes swampy area. As opposed to a stream or creek or river where there is a defined channel. That help? :-)
