I went with a butt joint with a reinforcing plate on the bottom of my uj pirogue. Now when I attach the bottom to the sides how do I deal with the raised section where the plate is? I used the 5mm luan. Cant I just sand a bevel to get it to mate up?

What would be interesting is seeing what kinda boat Matt would build. Can ya make a yak with a 48" bottom? Maybe I'm on to something? Kayaking to the oldies weight loss class.

I have a rigid palm sander that uses the rectangle sandpaper with the holes for the vacumn. I can't find the sheets for it anywhere? It's the clamp on style. I can find the hook and loop but not the clamp style? I've checked home depot, lowes, ace, you name it. Any ideas?
