Update. I made up the river to Morgan City tonight. I'm supposed to be getting off the boat on Wednesday at noon. Should give me time for a couple stops.
Now you see this just goes to show what I've been saying for years. Cajuns are by far some of the nicest people. They are what you think of when you hear southern hospitality. Thanks to everyone for the offers. It may be all for nothing if these clowns take us off the boat at midnight. Not sure...
Hmmm? Slidell Hun? A uj under construction? Just what I'm looking for. As soon as I know when I'm getting off this floating mobile home I'll let everyone know. I'm dying to get some ideas. Thanks everyone.
I'll be heading home to Florida next week from Lafayette. I was wondering if anyone would let me stop by and take a look at a completed uj pirogue? Preferably someone who lives close to I-12/I-10.
Oh on the other hand the 1/2" design would make mounting the .50 cal machine gun easier. And before you judge you should know the cotton mouths get pretty big.
Hmm? That is another way of looking at it. Darnit now I have to reconsider! This is so confusing. My mother always said I was different. I can't buil my boat like everyone else I gotta make it my own. But if making it my own will require a trailer and towing package on my jeep then I'll stick...
Ok after a little ribbing and some careful thought I'm going to do a half inch bottom. I'll stick with 1/4" on the sides. I'll post pics and details when I get home. I'm stuck on this boat until next week. It's killing me. I couldn't wait to get home last trip and get started. Then halfway...
Well the boat I'm running now is 145' and is classed at 97 gross tons so I can handle it. Of course it is helped along by five cummins KTA 38 turbo deisel engines. Lol!
Yeah heavy but you could get away with way less fiberglass prolly. I saw where a guy on YouTube built a 1/2" pirogue because he said he wanted more durability. Don't know? I may do it just to see how heavy it really is? What the hell I'm going to do it just for the fun of it. Any tips? Should be...
More than likely just the girlfriend and I plus gear. Around 400lbs. As far as water, mostly shallow rivers. Real shallow. I may venture out in the bay to chase redfish and flounder. So maybe I'll go 15 just to be safe?
So I'm thinking I'll go with the higher grit to start then finish with the palm sander? Also another quick question? I'm making a two man boat. What's a good length without being too long?
Thanks guys. That's to funny about chewing up your joints. I was kinda wondering about that. What grit belt should I use? I have 60 and I think 120? After reading about your experiance I'm thinking 60 may be a bit much? I'll get some photos when I get home. The funny part about the sander is my...
Hey everyone I love the site. Just got my uj pirogue. Working on scarf joints now and was wondering what glue to buy. I know uncle John says the glue isn't real important but I'd like something strong. Oh and make it something they sell at lowes. It's close to my house. Lol! Got lucky last night...
