    ha jack, by default, the dugout tree was round and solid. just thinking outside the stump. and that round bottom in sitting in the water deeper than my row and when you get stuck in the mud, i'm still going strong. but it will come down to who has the longest arms. later keith

    hi bear, that part with nevada smith and the pirogue (rice field) was shot in port vincent our local boat landing. 2 or 3 people can ride in a pirogue that we make. we have our sides at a greater angle ( 30 - 36 ), so the more you put in it the wider it is in the water. most of the ones on here...

    the nails hold your stick up. i use 3, one on each end and one in the middle. put your stick over the middle and under the ends, spring clamp stick to nail and mark. later keith

    i use nail and no string. the nails will go into the side boards where the chine and rub rails will go, so the nail holes want be a problem later. the stick itself can be 1/2 x 7/8 x 18 feet, it need to make a smooth arc, the size is secondary. later keith

    it a good hatchet. you cant go wrong by buying good tools. a sharp block plane is fast. i dont know what kind of tools you have. a table saw will work . a good sharp hatchet, BAM BAM, thank you mam, later keith

    it is easy to put the rails on while the sides are flat, but then its harder to bend. and with your rib system and big rails and chines, (with out jigs), i would put them on after. later keith

    with that pirogue laying on the table upside down, just for the heck of it, stick a 30 inch long 2 x 4 under it in the middle or 4 inches off center to open it up to see what it will look like. I assuming the bottom is it the 24 inch range. later keith

    dont ask sparky, when he goes paddlin he has 500 pounds in his boat and the rockers are underwater by then. the less weight you have in the boat, the more important the rocker becomes. i'll let this bait float awhile. later keith

    Scarfs on a table saw?

    i think your 35 and 45 are not going to the same place, there is a fork in the road. i use a table and a belt sander most of the time. why get complicated. i got a shop full of jigs now. can you do it on a table saw, yea and probably make a sliding miter sled. not for a one time use. later keith
