I'm gonna leave it glossy...I'm sick of sanding things!
Went to the West Marine store in Crystal River today and picked up a can of the Z-Spar 1015.....for $29.99!
My boat project went from a $200 project to around $400 and I just hope the thing floats and paddles straight.
Boat is just about done!
The last coat of Graphite and Epoxy went on the bottom today and when that dries I will flip it back over to coat the decks and inwhales. The I will be coating it with a good varnish and might be able to take it out by the weekend.
I post some more pictures soon...
I've have eaten Gar before and it isn't bad. The meat is real white and if you get it from a clean lake or river it will have good taste to it.
Just peel the back straps off and throw the rest away.
"Finished off the night by temporarily loosing the use of my right hand! Rolling Eyes Seems you can spend too much time with a death-grip on a random orbital sander. When I put the sander down, my hand retained it's shape. All better now! Laughing"
Man I know what you mean! My fillet's were a...
Well having a month off also helps speed up the building process :D
Yeah I used 3.5 oz cloth on the outside and inside and used 6 oz for the joints and will add the 6 oz on top of the 3.5 oz to the stems to add a little more protection.
I may have to make a call tomorrow back at RAKA for...
Added the fiberglass to the outside today and that was a chore with the heat and the epoxy setting up fast.
Will lay the glass in the inside tomorrow which should be fun...NOT!
Alright fellas I have put the fiberglass down on the bottom of my Pirogue and it looks great. I will be doing the inside tomorrow...
Do I need to lightly sand the bottom and add another coat of epoxy? I have just enough epoxy to do the inside and maybe a coat on the outside.
I'm gonna end...
FlaMike I wish I would have done it the way you did but live and learn. I have been drilling pilot holes also and screwing the brass screws in by hand as to not over torque them.
I took a little break from the build but will try to attach the rails again in a few minutes.
I rebuilt two more ribs out of clear pine and a little bigger stock. I also added 1/4 plywood gussets to both side of the rib joints.
I will use the extra rib as an extra support while attaching the rail. I'm also going to rip the rail down a little more.
Will see what happens....fingers...
I was attaching my rub rails this morning and had already screwed one into place and was clamping up the other side when I heard....CRACK!
The opposite side of the center rib broke off. I had a gusset on one side of the rib but the cypress itself looked as if it just split.
So I'm...
Well I have the ribs in and I will be putting the outer rails on it tomorrow and should be able to attach the bottom.
the boat end up at about 15' 6" on top of the stems which makes her look long and lean. But it should be fast to paddle and hopefully everything else will go together alright...
Well tomorrow I will be assembling the side to the end stems and the shape of the boat will begin. I have finished all my Butt Joints and they look pretty good and the plexi glass trick worked excellent!
I have a few pictures and will post them soon...
Hopefully the butt joint won't crack...
