Attaching Bottom to Stem/Stern

I rough cut the bottom tonight leaving a couple of inches extra around the entire boat:

My stem and stern extend below the sides, and I believe this is correct so that the tip of the bottom will but up against the stem. You can see the gap here:

So, am I correct in that I now need to cut the bottom to its exact length to fit in and but up against the stem and stern? Should I lightly tack it in place to get the length right?

Thanks - VTFogg

Lotsa ways to skin that cat, Foggy. I lightly nail at both ends and tack the bottom onto the frames...and use a bit of Gorilla Glue to hold it all together, press the bottom down with buckets of water, toolboxes, etc for a day. THEN I use the saber saw and cut around, trimming it all to shape.

Hi VTFogg,

I hadn't thought about doing it that way. I cut the stem flush and then stuck the bottom over it. I don't know what is the 'right' way.
