Buck Lake with John

I hiked back into the lake where John Depa is camping and fishing to join him for a couple of day's of fishing.

Sunday he was getting the bass and he said about 6 per hour while fishing. The weather changed Monday and a cold front moved into the area with some good winds and showers. Anyway on Monday John got skunked and the fish would not hit anything.

The fishing got set aside for Monday afternoon because of the rain and wind so we sat around the camp and got caught up on what has been happening and then a good supper and a camp fire. About 9.00P.M. the storms arrived and it was off into the Hennessey Hammocks for the night. What a night the wind blew and sounded like a freight train coming thru the trees then it was followed up with heavy rain in sheets ( a wall of water) and really came down.

All of this lovely weather continued thru the night and slowed up in the morning. When I got up and walked over to Johns Hammock there was this pine tree, the storm blew down, laying next to his hammock and across from the campfire there was a smaller tree blown down.

The storm was so noisy that neither of us heard them come down and it was a surprise to see them. Everything was wet except for the two of us and the inside of the hammocks, they weathered the storm really good and worked just like they were intended to.
I was wondering how they would be in a strong storm and now I know. Both John and I agreed that if we would have been in a tent we would have water inside it. This was a strong storm and the campsite was flooded.

Packing my backpack and starting to walk out to the truck I stopped at the lakes edge and with the fly rod made one cast and got one bass, John was fit to be tied here he did all that casting yesterday and did not get anything and I make one cast and get one fish. I just smiled and looked at him .....telling him that I don't like to waste energy and it should not take more then one cast per fish....The power of fly fishing.
I got it on a tan bream killer (spider) and it was a small bass but it was a bass.

For your information..........

Guy's let me say this right now ....... We (the members) purchase everything to use it for our camping. That way if we don't like it then we can say so.

Here are some items that I believe in and John Depa and Kayak Jack would agree with me. The Hennesey Hammock ( http://www.hennessyhammock.com/ ) will take a beating , while you are sleeping , and still keep you dry along with the Cooke Tarp ( http://www.cookecustomsewing.com/ ) while holding up to the worse of storms.
