G'day guys,
Miz Robin and I finally got our act together yesterday and went whale watching.
Hervey Bay claims to be Australia's whale watching capitol of the world and is only about 30 minutes drive away from us. There is a huge fleet of very nice commercial vessels dedicated to the enterprise and cater to visitors from around the globe. Other areas of our east coast also lay claim to the title but Hervey Bay is the only place where the whales actually stop and rest for a while. Everywhere else, they are just passing through. The fleet, consists of mostly multi-national and resort owned vessels that are very slick in both their manner of operation, their marketing and their approach to the business in general.
There are, however alternatives - locally and family owned and operated enterprises that are genuine in their desire to promote OUR whales and like likewise in their love of these magnificent animals. Their vessels are at least as good as the big guys and their service and the experience they offer is second to none.
The humbacks call in to the sheltered waters of the bay on their annual migration from Antarctica to rest, play and some believe to give birth. at any rate, there are a lot of very young whales there each year.
Arrived at the marina at 0730 for boarding.

A symbol of a bygone era
Seemed it was "pirates" day on the boat. Captain and crew are all family and their passion for their game was infectious.
This is one of the "slick" outfits I mentioned.
and this is the "crowd" on our little boat. 8) with a nice little landcape for my good friend bear.
more to come
