I was in my local home depot today and noticed that they have 16 foot lengths of lattice and other trim lumber in strips down to about 1/4 inch thick. Most of these or between 1 1/2 inches to 5/8 inches wide. I know this is pine but could one build a strip built pirogue or canoe from this stuff?

I use the same stuff for the railing on my boats and can not see why it would not work for a stripper. The cost might be a little high because of all the wood you would need to make the boat. Also finding enough strips to do the job that are straight without and bends or twists in them would or will be a challenge.

The stripper pirogue I made took 144 strips of wood to make it , those were in 8 foot sections so the strips at 16 feet should be half that amount.

If you try it , when you have the panels made , assemble the boat , epoxy saturate the heck out of it and glass both sides. It is some soft wood.
