In February I'll be playing a solo gig with an orchestra in Baton Rouge when they perform "AN ORKNEY WEDDING WITH SUNRISE".......

After reading this recipe I decided against taking it the the job and sharing it around, but it still looks llike fun:

ORKNEY WEDDING COG

3.5lt (6 pints) Real Ale
1 bottle Whisky
1 bottle Rum
½ bottle Brandy
½ bottle Port
½ bottle Gin or Vodka
600ml - 1.2lt (1-2 pints) Stout
Sugar
Mixed Spice

Place the ale and stout into a large saucepan and heat gently, but do not allow to boil.
When heated add sugar to taste and allow to dissolve.
Add the spirits and mixed spice to taste.
(Keep tasting until it is 'just right'.)
Heat very gently, but do not allow to boil.
Pour into a large punch bowl or cog.

I figure it would serve someplace between 4 and 400 persons.

oz.........Orckey.......ORK-nee........... a small, cold, wet, miserable little island, pounded by the North Sea.....a fantasy vacation spot among Scots and wanabe scots the world around.

The Scots relish adversity and poor conditions.......notice many of the great global explorers in the last century or so as well as the work of the Highland Regiments iln any world conflict.

Of course, there is a little alchohol at an Orkney Wedding. Nobody is going to be driving after and if you stay back from the cliff-edges it will be fine.

JEEZ! It hit me like a brick! Now I understand that Christmas Carol we learned in 3rd grade! It's not a wassailing we'll go! Wassailing is code for drinking!!! But ya need a cog to do it!

The Wassail Song

Here we come a-wassailing
Among the leaves so green,
Here we come a wand'ring,
So fair to be seen.

Chorus
Love and joy come to you,
And to your wassail too,
And God bless you and send you a happy new year,
And God send you a happy new year.

We are not daily beggars
Who beg from door to door,
But we are neighbor's children
Whom you have seen before.

Chorus
Love and joy come to you,
And to your wassail too,
And God bless you and send you a happy new year,
And God send you a happy new year.

We have a little purse
Made of ratching leather skin;
We want some of your small change
To line it well within.

Chorus
Love and joy come to you,
And to your wassail too,
And God bless you and send you a happy new year,
And God send you a happy new year.

God bless the Master of this house,
Likewise the Mistress too;
And all the little children
That round the table go.

Chorus
Love and joy come to you,
And to your wassail too,
And God bless you and send you a happy new year,
And God send you a happy new year.

Piper...

As you and others might have noticed , I cleaned up your thread so it more or less stays with the general idea which you posted.

The one post you made expressed to me that this other thing has gone to far and to stop all of the baiting going on by some parties , there posts were removed since they had nothing to do with your original idea. :D

If anyone misses that Tom Foolery and mindless banter then complain to me but be ready for more in the future. The insanity belongs in the GENERAL SECTION .... Not where someone would look for anything sane.

Before anyone says anything... Yep I am just a guilty as anyone.

Chuck.

For those of you here that dont partake of the alcohol (like myself), I took the liberty of doing a non-alcohol version of Pipers recipe:

ORKNEY NON-ALCOHOLIC WEDDING COG

Sugar
Mixed Spice

add sugar and mixed spice to taste.
