Mike,

I make stuff I call "Rice Gloppy" wherein I use rice, some kind of meat (usually chicken or turkey), and some kinds of veggies, usually onions & garlic & carrots & garlic & broccolli & garlic. This steams up really good. If you use brown rice, Chuckie's suggestion of soaking it all day (rolling around in the back of the canoe - doesn't work in the front) in a Nalgene bottle with premeasured water is a good one, as it reduces cooking time to that of white rice.
