Texas Style Green Fried Tomatoes
I borrowed this from Wild Ed's Texas Outdoors...... blog. http://wildedtx.blogspot.com/

My wife tends a small garden at her father's place. Last night she brought home some fresh vegetables along with several large green tomatoes that I requested that she pick early. I had not had fried green tomatoes in years and wanted to fry them up for a meal. I thought that since I was going to the trouble to bread and fry the tomatoes I would do a smorgasbord of fresh fried vegetables from the garden and it turned out to be a wonderful dinner if not heavy on the fried side of the scale. Sometimes you just have to have some things boiled in hot oil, if you know what I mean. The following is how they were prepared.

I first scrubbed all the tomatoes, okra, yellow squash, potatoes, peppers and zucchini. All were then sliced and put in the buttermilk egg wash consisting of one cup of buttermilk and one egg whipped together to make the wash.

The breading was 1 cup of yellow cornmeal and 1 cup of flour. To this I added Jalapeño salt; garlic powder and brisket rub for seasoning.

The vegetables were taken from the wash and dropped into the breading. I made sure all were coated well and put them into hot olive oil to fry. See, I used olive oil so it would be a health conscious meal. When they floated or turned golden brown they were removed and put on paper towels to drain. Ketchup and Ranch Dressing were put on the table as condiments and with a glass of cold fresh brewed tea it was a meal to be remembered or repeated the next time we have fresh vegetables from the garden. I had forgotten just how good fresh green fried tomatoes can taste, Wild Ed

Well if you get this way drop in and I will fix us a mess. My wife went and bought me a new deep fryer after I fixed all those vegetables the other night so I am ready to fry.

It's a trap! She'll work on convincing you that kitchen gadgets are like power tools for inside the house, and the next thing you know you'll have a closet full of them and be doing all the cooking!

Leastways, that's what happened here

Reminds me of a guy I used to swap email with a few years back , seems that a few years after his first wife died he remarried but it didn't last long . but when his second wife left she took pretty much all the furniture and kitchen appliances , seems all she left was the fridge and a deep fryer , he never did get around to replacing the bed , just strung a hammock up in the bedroom and while he bought some knifes , forks and plates ect . his main cooking appliance is the deep fryer , last time I talked to him he was telling me how his grand kids had visited for a week , the parents had told him that the kids wouldn't eat any vegetable except fried potato chips , when the parents come to pick them up the kids told them that they loved eating vegetables now , the parents asked how on earth he managed to get the kids eating them , he told them he just cooked them the same way he cooked every thing , deep fried in batter , seems that is how he eats every thing , steak , chicken , fish , carrots , pumpkin , celery , broccoli , doesn't matter , dipped in batter and deep fried
