What is the type or brand of varnish to use?

I've seen some discussion of varnish in the pirogue section, about varnish not drying. So, what is the best type or brand do you use or recommend?

need to thin it down like the directions say and apply thin coats - we roll and tip

expensive and not as forgiving as some varnishes, but has a high solids content and makes a beautiful finish that really lasts

We like the Z Spar for a couple of reasons, Coal. One, it works. Two, it provides excellent UV protection. Reason #2 is really a primary reason to use varnish on a boat. Epoxy already looks like varnish, but it needs UV protection.

Thanks guys, that's the information I was looking for.
Here is something I found at another forum:
"We were surprised and a bit confused when the Minnwax customer service rep told us the company specifically did not recommend the product for marine applications - nor was more than three coats recommended. Huh? A product marketed as a spar grade exterior wood finish and named 'Helmsman' is not recommended for marine use by the company that makes it?"
