This recipe is from my tattered 36 year old copy of
the "LAST WHOLE EARTH CATALOG" Updated August, 1972.
It is 500 double pages long, 11"x17" in size and it was only 5 bucks. I think I saved up for it...LOL I was only 15 years old when I bought it. Here is the recipe verbatim. All credits given. I have made this recipe many times over
the last 36 years.
I have NEVER had a failure.
Thanks!

YOGURT
Here it is! The definitive yogurt recipe, courtesy of me.(The guy that submitted the recipe)
No special equipment, no watching the pot for hours & fussing about keeping at a special temperature-AT ALL.
Equipment:
1 large pyrex (or otherwise heatproof) mixing bowl.
Measuring cups,spoons
Jars to store yogurt in.
Oven

Ingredients:
3 cups instant powdered milk
1/2 tsp. unflavored gelatin
1 tbsp. sugar(optional)
1 large can evaporated milk
3 tbsp. yogurt
Water

Instructions:
Soften the unflavored gelatin in a little water then add
boiling water to make 1 cup. Add 1 tbsp. sugar(this takes the "edge" off) and let the mixture cool a bit.

Preheat the oven to about 275 degrees.(250-300 degree range is O.K.)

Mix 3 cups instant powdered milk with 3 cups water.
Add 1 large can evaporated milk, 2 more cups of tepid water, and the gelatin mixture.

Add 3 tablespoons yogurt and stir thoroughly.

Cover the bowl, put it in the oven, and
TURN THE OVEN OFF!!

Leave it overnight, or about 8-10 hours.

Makes about 2 quarts, and is "fool proof".
