    video of my fist float

I finally got the video my father in law shot while I was taking the Bayou Skiff out on her first float. Its a little out of focus in some spots but overall gives a good impression of how the boat floats. I've since painted it and added a trolling motor. http://youtu.be/-FmFNOOsrxU and a...

    and let the camoflauge begin!

Finally had a chance to get her inside the garage and get the graphite bottom painted on. It has either been too rainy or too many bugs outside to get anything done so I cleared out enough space in the garage to squeeze myself around the boat and got 3 layers of epoxy / graphite painted on...

    and let the camoflauge begin!

yes, on the outside I sprayed a coat of dark green first and the light green over the big leaves, then I did brown over the palmetto branch, just alternated the leaves around to give it a "random" look. On the inside I did a basecoat of light green then brown over the leave with the dark green...

    and let the camoflauge begin!

so far that was about 5 cans, I bought 6 cans and have about a half of dark green and brown left. To get the pattern I went out into the backyard and cut the biggest leaves I could find where were a few baby elephant ear leaves and then some random tree. Also cut a few limbs off a palmetto...

    and let the camoflauge begin!

A few more pics after painting the inside. The bow was left unpainted because I will be adding a deck and dry storage compartment there in reply to catfish I will primarily be using it for fishing since I do not currently own a gun.

    and let the camoflauge begin!

had a chance to do some artistry today and I finally decided that I would camoflauge my bayou skiff. Went to Home depot and picked up some Rustolleum spray paints and here is what I got so far :D and the daughter checking out my handy work going to try and start on the inside tomorrow...

    Maiden Voyage

I was casting a line a few times until it got all rat nested on me then I quit... Yes my dad grew up on a farm and was quite adept at paddling / sculling a small boat or canoe. I was practicing my J stroke when I was soloing. Eventually I will get a trolling motor on there but for...

    Maiden Voyage

finally have pics of my maiden voyage of the UJ Bayou Skiff. That is me in the light blue shirt, my son and my dad sitting in the front. Had a blast floating around on the pond and hopefully next time will get it slimed. No leaks :D here is the link to the album...

    UJ bayou skiff

Re: 1st post! UJ bayou skiff The boat float was a SUCCESS!! it did not sink nor tip. got nearly 2 hours of time on the pond checking for leaks which I found none. got to throw a fishing line a few times but had more trouble with that than was worth the effort. The photographer (my wife Holly)...

    UJ bayou skiff

so I got one layer of glass on the inside. covered the bottom and almost to the top of the sides. it was much more tricky getting the glass on the inside as the wind kept blowing the loose cloth around. When that layer dries to the touch I am going to put a second coat of epoxy by roller to...

    UJ bayou skiff

Re: 1st post! UJ bayou skiff I sure do have the itch to get it in the water but I need to make sure I get all the wood epoxy coated so I don't run into any rot issues. So far there are 2 layers of glass on the bottom and 4 coats of epoxy, I believe I should have enough glass left to get one...

    UJ bayou skiff

Re: 1st post! UJ bayou skiff I've since trimmed all the loose cloth off the edges. Now to do a light sand and procede with the next layer. I'll be coating the bottom and sides up to the water line with graphite so all the rough spots hopefully will not show after those coats. Mine...

    UJ bayou skiff

Re: 1st post! UJ bayou skiff Larry from RAKA suggested to me to do 2 layers on the outside of the lighter cloth to double the coverage on the hull joint. I think I may have gotten enough to do some on the inside where the most weight (me) will be sitting / standing. I'm going to put the...
