My daughters Bear Mountain kayak build

Jack, that's one of the most profound things that I've heard. Thanks. :D *****

My daughters Bear Mountain kayak build

Heh, heh, heh. Actually it's caveat. And here I though it was time to do a bit of a shop clean up. We just got back in from working on the boat -- Maddie glassed the seams underneath the deck. Next time out -- time to glass the inside of the hull. She informed me tonight that she...

My daughters Bear Mountain kayak build

My 13 year old (she's 14 now) daughter bugged me for nearly a year to let her build her own kayak. I figured that anyone that persistent should be given an opportunity to do what they long for -- so I picked up a Bear Mountain Magic kit for her and she's been busy sanding and epoxying ever...

    Paddling screws first group outing.

Very cool Mick. Here in Canada we use the term "corrections officer". Interestingly, at the paddling store where I work, we have quite a few corrections officers who paddle -- both male and female. Quite a few of them take their kayaking very seriously. I suspect that it's a good way of relaxing.

My Canada Trip.... What a Trip in more then one way.

Re: Canadian tax refund Holy cow, Chuck. That must have been a nice room. You know, in all seriouness, that does sound a bit steep -- but I've stayed in places in the US that cost that much too -- and I can't say that I was overly impressed. You can easily spend $300-500 a night in a...

My Canada Trip.... What a Trip in more then one way.

The problem is that you went to the "other" Canada, Chuck. The real Canada is hidden away on the west side of the Rocky Mountains. In the real Canada, everything smells like roses and the costs are somewhat lower than the "other" Canada. Not a lot lower, but lower nonetheless. The scenery is...

    Woodgate/Theodolite Creek - again

Mick, we really need to get together for a paddle. 8) That's a truly awesome place where you live.

20 reasons to not paddle in the Deer Group

Thanks guys. I really cherish the trips that I do with my kids. I know that it won't be more than a few short years before they're not going to want to go for a while and that's fine (most of the time now, my 15 year old son would rather be playing his guitar in his buddies garage than hanging...

20 reasons to not paddle in the Deer Group

I just got back from the Deer Group (in Barkley Sound, on the west coast of Vancouver Island) a couple of weeks ago and have to say that it was awful. Absolutely ghastly. I don't recommend going there if you're looking for some relaxation. Just way too much stressful stuff to deal with -- whales...

Nearly finished with the finish on my Coho

Thanks for the kind words arrondo (and everyone else too). Yup, it sure was. And thanks to you for your contribution to the potluck dinner: Mmmm... appys.

Nearly finished with the finish on my Coho

Thanks everyone. Mick, one day I'd like to get together with you and go for a paddle -- and the boats don't need to be shiny, any old piece of junk that floats will be fine by me. :D This boat is going to be used as though it were any other glass boat -- it will be my primary boat...

Nearly finished with the finish on my Coho

I dunno Bearridge, saying "kayak" and "coffin" in the same sentence doesn't seem right to me. But making a kayak into a coffin seems just plain wrong. Those Wood Song boats are gorgeous. I'd have a problem paddling one of those -- they really are works of art. My kayak is nowhere...

Nearly finished with the finish on my Coho

Thanks for blessing my boat, Mick. It's appreciated. And thanks for the turtle too. :D Managed to get a couple of hours of shop time today:

Nearly finished with the finish on my Coho

Thanks for all the kind words guys. Chuck, I've already paddled this boat -- while on a ten day trip on the Bowron Lakes last August, so I do know how well it paddles -- and you're absolutely correct, it's a pretty fast boat. And yes, it is the Sapele version -- cost a few more bucks and will...
